Plastic Surgery

There are things I would have done, in a heart beat, if I weren't terrified of anesthesia!! It's a personal choice but some people definitely go way too far! And, I think that what was done to Heidi Montag borders on criminal. She clearly has other issues that need to be addressed. What 23 year old needs a brow lift and Botox, let alone, all the other crud? :sad2:

I'm having pretty major plastic surgery done this summer. My upper lip was almost totally shredded off (dog bite) about 2 months ago.

It still hurts a LOT - but nothing like it did for the first six weeks.

I've seen 2 decent face lifts in my life. Most are pretty awful. it is really an art as much as a surgical skill.

No problem with any of it. It's no one's business but the person who is having it's done.

I shall be Botox-ing verrrrrry soon. :)

I would love to have some plastic surgery when I finish losing this weight. 50-lbs so far, got about 30 to go. I'm 53 so everything is heading for the basement. If I were to come into some money I would love to "invest" it in a tummy tuck, some lipo, and a breast reduction. And maybe even a little face tightening, although I'm a little bit leery of much facial reconstruction. I don't want to end up looking like a wide-eyed bee-stung Barbie doll.

Show me the money and I will have a TON of stuff done. I hate my double chin, hate that I look OLD and hate that I have a big pot gut.
So, I would have some things lifted, tucked and I would feel better about me ;)
I don't want to look 'younger' just refreshed :)
Oh and I would have the ****s lifted too

If someone wants to have something done, I say go for it. If it is going to make you feel better about yourself, that is really all that matters. What someone else thinks about it really is not important.

I have not considered anything other than a breast reduction but I am soooo scared to have it done. I waited until I was done having kids to really consider but now that I am done, I am terrified to have surgery.

I will tell you that my breast reduction was a breeze:thumbsup2 Honestly I didn't even need a Tylenol after the 2cnd day.

I also had a good experience with a breast reduction. I wasn't on tylenol on day 2, but I really had no pain afterwards because I fully used the pain medications made available to me. :thumbsup2

As far as elective cosmetic surgery goes, to each their own. It's really no one's business. As long as you have the money/it's not a financial hardship on your family, you're aware of the risks and you're not doing it to make someone else happy, who cares? I know a few people who had a particular feature that they were always terribly self-conscious about and they've said it was the best money they ever spent, and wish they would have done it sooner. Some people have perfectly fine self-esteem/mental health but just want that flaw fixed instead of living with it. I can't argue with that - if I hadn't seen rhinoplasty being done and the recovery it takes, I'd totally take a tinier nose. :lmao:

I see nothing wrong with people doing procedures if it makes them feel better about themselves. I'm in my mid-50's and would love to have an eye lift.

Amen ! I would love to have my eye lids done as they are sagging almost to my lash line. But now that I'm older and wiser I'd never have any thing done about my 32 A though in the past it was what I wanted most.

I agree that it is a personal decision and that some people take it to extremes. With that said, I had a tummy tuck last year and it was the best thing I ever did. I lost a lot of weight and no matter how much I exercised I couldn't get rid of the hanging stomach. It was a long recovery, I was cut side to side and have a 26" scar, but definitely worth it.

I don't have a problem with plastic surgery, so long as it doesn't become an obsession. There can be a genuine need for it, like facial reconstruction after and accident, extreme I know, but I also think it's okay for correcting minor vanity issues. I'd consider having my right ear pinned back; it sticks out more than the other, and I'm not comfortable wearing my hair up because of it. It's not ruined my life or anything, but if I had the extra money I'd do it. People who go in for lipo on their lunch hour, that's just crazy.

Not for me - unless there was a medical need..

Wow - this is promising! How long were you off work or on bedrest? I have a 6 month old so would I not be able to hold her for a long time?

How did you go about finding a good platic surgeon??

Sorry to hijack!!!

I know you didn't quote me, but I didn't need anything after day 2 either. I had an 11 month old at the time, and I was able to pick her up (out of the crib/up to the highchair ONLY) about 4 days after. I wasn't supposed to, but dh had to go back to work.

I went to several docs.
I went with the one who made me most comfortable.
Also, take a look at his before/after pics. If he seems like the kind of doc who would do a 'Heidi Montag', don't go to him/her.:thumbsup2

Honestly, it was 14 years ago so my memory is fuzzy. My dd was 10 months and I know I couldn't lift her for a while but don't remember how long. I went to Dr for a check-up a few days after surgery and since dh was working, my bf came over and helped me take a bath:lmao: I know I wasn't 'laid up' for too long. there are probably some great discussion boards online-they would have great(and more current) info. I will say that my scars are pretty bad but that dooesn't bother me and I lost some feeling in one:lmao:

I wasn't supposed to lift heavier than a gallon of milk, or lift much above my shoulder level, for about six weeks IIRC - you can push it a little but it's really just to help your healing. I was up and about and feeling pretty good within the next couple days, though - and like I said, no pain at all. A little soreness and stiffness but nothing hurt.

I have some scarring, but it's not bad, and I didn't have any long-term loss of feeling anywhere. What was weird was for a long time I would get a sensation that I needed to scratch an itch somewhere but when I did it, it wouldn't be in that spot and I couldn't really find where to scratch it or it was way off. :) Overall the surgery and recovery was pretty much a breeze and I'd recommend getting a consultation to anyone with pain or discomfort currently. Only caveat I'd give is if you are planning on children and want to breastfeed, it can make that more difficult and potentially not possible, so it's something to consider in your decision.

It's PAINFUL! I had to have work done on my nose twice for medical reasons, and it was so nasty, and painful.

After 3 large babies in 3 1/2 yrs - my stomach literally hangs. I hate it - I lost a lot of weight and it's like an elastic that won't snap back. I would love to get a tummy tuck - and Dh supports me... hopefully one day I will be able to get that tummy tuck.

But, that being said - to each his own!
