Plastic card tickets instead of Magicbands

We are staying on site, but there are a few in my group that would prefer not wearing the magicband. Will we be sent the plastic cards in addition to the magicbands? If not, how do we get them? Also can these cards be used at the FP+ check ins at attractions?

Thanks!

I've heard that they will put your ticket on a plastic card at the check in desk of your resort if you prefer to use the cards instead of the MB. I'm going to test this out when we go to WDW in June. The cards can be used at the fp+ check ins. :)

They don't have to actually wear the magic band - they can just carry it in their pocket (or bag if they're carrying one) and just pull it out when they need it.

If someone really wants a plastic card, and for some reason they won't give one at the resort (they should, but you never know), just come to a ticket booth at a theme park and tell us you want a card as backup in case you lose or forget your MagicBand. Or just bring us a picture of the 12-digit alphanumeric code from the inside of your MagicBand and say you did lose it.

We were just there this week and I saw a lot of people using cards instead of the magic bands at the ticket gates and at the fastpass readers. They seemed to work fine, but it did seem to slow down the overall process as people fumbled around finding the cards in pockets and trying to scan multiple cards at the fastpass readers.

If a person is going to fumble for a card (which is what is used ALL the time everywhere), what do you think they are going to do when it comes time to align their wrist and the mickey head with the scanner? I think we'd rather have someone dealing with cards at that point.

And I'm not sure anything could take longer than most people I've seen with those bands. Wowzers are those awkward for most people I've seen....

Oh my gosh!!!! I love the magic band but I am not good at maneuvering to align the Mckey to Mickey!!! I am one of those folks that has inadvertantly held up a line while I twist and turn! LOL!

From my recent experience at BWI and AOA the resorts really don't like giving out "room key cards" they said they just won't work right in the new system and I didn't push it to far either time. So for room access and charging you kind of need your magic band but it doesn't hurt to stop at the front desk and ask for a room key instead, you may get a different response from a different CM/Resort. I just kept my MB on the strap of my cross body bag instead of my wrist when it got uncomfortable. You also won't get access to some of the ride photos and videos if you don't have your MB.

For park access and FP+ you just need your park ticket, a lanyard keeps it very handy for the tap styles.

Thank you for the info! :thumbsup2

Thank you everyone! This will make a couple of the males in my family happy!

As an add on question: Say grandparents decide they aren't going to make it to the park in time to use their Fast Passes that afternoon. Can grand kids use the grandparents' cards to access the Fast Passes. From what I read it is't "wrong" to use someone else's Fast Pass in your party, but will they work if that person hasn't actually entered the park? Not sure how sophisticated the system is.

We just got back from a trip with our band. They did not get bands at check-in, only cards. They worked fine with everything.

Anyone can choose to use a card instead of a Magic Band. That choice is actually part of official privacy policy for MyMagic+. When you use the Magic Band, your information gets used to customize some attractions (like It's a Small World) and to trigger photos on other attractions.

Since some people are not comfortable with their name being displayed, they can avoid these enhanced experiences by using the plastic card. Since the card doesn't have a battery like the Magic Band, it can't be read by the long-range readers. That protects the guest's privacy.

And again like many WDW policies posted on the website as well as those cited buy CM's; actual experience is very different.

I was told at AOA and BWI that it is really not a good option and they avoid this at all costs. Just relaying real world info here !

At AOA the CM even brought over the manager (I was pretty accepting of the answer but they went above and beyond to try and address my concerns!) and he said in no uncertain terms that the card messes up the system and he couldn't guarantee that after issuing the card to me that the other MB's in our party would work properly. Once again (just last month) I asked at BWI and the CM just politely advised me against this saying it causes more problems than it solves, and this time I was solo!

So - for me it was just best to use my AP to enter the park and access FP+ and have my MB handy to access my room and charging privileges.

As a follow up I did contact Guest Relations and was told that I should have been offered a room key card with charging but that doesn't do much good when your actually standing at the front desk and they are telling you no.

I hope this was an isolated incident. Disney's legal department probably expects much more strict adherence to a posted policy regarding guest privacy than they would for something like handing out rider switch passes.

I'm also not sure how it would mess up the system to issue cards since they are just copies of the same information and the passive readers shouldn't "know" which copy is being used. Maybe someone more knowledgable about the tech can explain if this is indeed true or if this is just a case of uninformed CMs.

You can.

Eventually they may correct the program to only allow FP+ to be used if that person entered the park that day, to avoid the questionable behavior that is going on now, allowing people to get multiple FP+ above the 3 allowed. But I guess so far, it's possible.

Well if twice is isolated then yes, as I stated once at AOA and most recently in April at BWI.
