have them? Like them? Would they make a difference if you were buying a home? Easy to care for? Do they take up alot of the window view? Ugly and took them out? What is your experience, all opinions welcome good or bad........

We are considering buying the poly shutters for our house. It is quite an investment. We have never had them and I have not seen the inside of a house that does have them. :confused3

:thanks: ......

We had planation shutters put in when we built our villa. We are VERY happy with them. We just use a swiffer duster once a week on them to clean. They are very energy efficient (keeping the sunlight out). We have the composition shutters (vinyl/wood mix). We have them on all the windows and on the sliding glass door as well.

These pictures are from when we moved in back in December:

I have all faux wood blinds and I can't wait to get rid of them.
My house is so dusty, there is no way I will do any blinds or shutters ever again. I love the look but cannot take the cleaning.
We are going to be putting in pull down shades.

The pictures certainly give me a better perspective of what they look like.

My windows are bigger than standard draperies and the TX sun is not kind to custom drapes.

My house is dusty too and I was hoping the composite shutters would be easy to dust or wash.

We have the comp shutters as well....we were told that the "real" wood shutters usually end up splitting/warping after many years. Ours are white because our interior doors and baseboards are white. I think they look fabulous. They do a wonderful job keeping the sun out, which is important as we have no large trees to shade our home yet. And the temp is 102 here today in the happy midwest! :) Our are extremely easy to clean, just a dusting is needed. Since they are white I've even used a Mr. Clean magic eraser when my 3yr old got nasty w/a crayon.

I think my favorite part of having them is that shutter slats can be open/closed/partially open, or you can open the entire shutter doors.

I had them in my last house, but since I'm only going to be in this one short term, I opted to do 2" wood blinds instead. As a realtor, I know our market won't support me getting my money back out of them, and they're not cheap.

2" blinds have a similar look - and are easy to maintain. I take those suckers off and lay them flat in my grass on a sunny day and hose them down. Flip 'em over and do the other side and in a few hours, they're dry enough to re-hang. :teeth:

Prices, I need prices! I'm planning to put them in my condo...what does an average size window cost?

I want them so I'm also interested in opinions. I'll have to have custom ones done. So I'm sure they will be $$$$$$$

I had one window custom-made and it cost me over $1k. This included installation and was a 6' wide window and they probably went up another 5' or so.

:scared:  :faint:

gulp...thanks... I think :)

Hopefully I will not have to do toomany big windows.

Now you see why I have 2" blinds.

I do need to add that I did this before the Big Box stores started selling them. I went through a blind company. Home Depot and Lowe's may sell them for much less. I haven't a clue.

ETA: Chloe was always so good when she was a puppy, but she would get so frustrated when we went into our pool without her. Well, one time she took out that frustration on a slat from my shutters. :faint:

it will be $10,000 for 24 windows. But this is my reasoning.........the windows will be finished. I won't have to replace sun faded drapes. Nor have custom drapes made for 19 of the 24 windows. I like to/have to clean any window coverings as my house is dusty. It is hot and dry and the dusty flies here.

It would be nice to get something back on resale even if they are the reason someone choose this house over some other house.

I need a lot of hand holding before making this size of a commitment.
Tell me it will be OK.......... ::yes::

It'll be ok... that price for 24 windows seems reasonable.
