I developed Plantar Fasciitis when I decided to power walk on the track! I have to be on my feet all day at work, and the podiatrist and I tackled it BIG TIME!
Do not buy special, expensive shoes, like Nike Whatever. Buy a comfy, plain kind of shoe...Reebok Princess works very well.
Get the inserts if you have foot problems that need to be corrected. They make cheapo ones for $45 or so that may very well help. If they don't, you can get them custom made for about $300. (And it feels Oh-so-good when they rub that wet plaster on your feet, then stick your feet in a whirlpool.)
Do the stretches! Do the stretches! Do the stretches! Especially before you get out of bed.
If you find that you're gaining weight because you can't exercise, SWIM! Do not, after a couple months of no pain, decide that your foot is fine and go back to doing Denise Austin exercises. I speak from experience here! You set yourself all the way back.
It takes 10-12 months to heal itself, and the only way to do that is to stop re-injuring it. When you get up in the morning, and it isn't hurting, you'll know recovery has begun!
When I first developed it, I had to take a pill to relieve the inflammation (it was also a very mild pain-killer). But after about 3 months, I switched to OTC stuff, and now take nothing.
I've got three more months before I'm done with this wretched business, and I feel your pain!
