Hi,

I like to putter in my yard, but I am by no means an experienced gardener. I do lots of trial and error and like to try new things. One new thing I'm contemplating is a plant swap. The PTSO at the school I work at is hosting a Home and Garden Show next weekend and one of the things they have planned is a plant swap. Unfortunately, there are no details about it. I don't have anything exciting to swap, but I can divide some of my hostas, Shasta daisies, daylillies, coral bells, and liriope. Have any of you participated in a plant swap before? How do you decide what a "fair" trade is? Are the plants I can divide worth taking?

I appreciate any light you can shed on the subject since I have no clue about what to expect!

Thanks!

Amid Chaos does plant swaps all the time! Hopefully, she'll hop on soon and give you some guidelines!

I know that dividing your plants and bringing them is just fine! I personally love hostas and daylillies and if I were at your plant swap, I'd be sure to take any of the plants you're thinking of dividing.

I may be wrong, but there is no "fair trade" issue in swapping. Plants need to be divided so people are happy to see their plants find a new home instead of the divisions ending up discarded!

ENJOY! And let us know how it goes!

Gina is right...just bring anything you have..pot it up and make sure it's healthy. if you have any pictures, descriptions, care notes, etc, that's always nice to receive with a new plant.

you take home as many as you bring, so get busy!
