Hi All,
Currently we own 150 points at Poly (October use year). We bought in November 2017 immediately after a trip to WDW so we banked the first 150 points to use over the next 3 years to average 200 points a year. Our first DVC trip was in March 2019 at the poly (9 nights), our 2020 trip is in March in a Bay Lake studio (9 nights), and our plan for 2021 is back at Poly for 9 nights.

At that point we will be out of the banked points for the first year and we will be back to just 150 points so we are planning to add on points.

Our first thought was to buy more Poly points resale, 100 points or so.

Then we started thinking about future trips and the possible need for a 2 bedroom when we want to invite extended family, or 1 bedrooms to have a little separation from our growing 2 kids.
Now we are thinking about a 160 pt contract from SSR, although we would not prefer to stay there. We live about 30 minutes from Saratoga Springs. NY so SSR is a little too close to home.
We would plan to use the SSR points with banked leftover Poly points every other year (380 points or so), to use for 1 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms at other resorts.
I know availability at 7 months can be tough, but I consistently see 1 and 2 bedrooms available at 7 months. We wouldn't be going in the fall during the DVC busy season.

Is this a viable plan?

And does use year matter for the SSR points?

If you want to combine at 7 months with the Poly points, you have to keep the same UY. A different UY is a different membership which means You’d either have to transfer points or book some nights on one membership and one on the other,

In terms of 7 months, looking at 1 bedrooms will be better than others, but things are beginning to tighten and you need to be okay with not getting exactly what you want elsewhere,

You mention 9 nights so it could end up not being able to trade all. Only you can know how disappointed or frustrated you would be if you can’t move from SSR for at least some of the trip.

If you are concerned then I would probably look at spending a little more now to pick a home resort that you would be happy with.

i own and bought SSR a few years ago with the goal of staying elsewhere. However, if I can’t, I am okay to be there.

Good luck!

Today's 7 month availability isn't necessarily going to continue, especially with the legacy 14 resorts due to the latest changes that allow direct buyers at RIV to trade in, but recent L14 resale buyers don't get to book RIV, thereby creating an imbalance of demand. I suggest, at a minimum, you buy where you don't mind staying.

You've got points at Poly, which have no 2 bedrooms (other than the uber expensive bungalows). If you believe your future includes primarily 2 bedroom units, you'll be using these points as your "sleep around" points. So, your other home resort should be one where you WANT to stay.

It makes it easier to manage your points if you maintain a single use year. With multiple use years, you'd need multiple accounts to manage them.

We will use our Poly points every other year in a Poly Studio. we love it there and the Studios are plenty big enough for us.

A 2 bedroom stay would only be every 3-4 years with the add on points.

I think we are going to look at Animal Kingdom Villas as those resale contracts aren't much more than SSR and we wouldn't mind staying there at all.

I didn't know this, Thank you for the clarification.

I would follow the old advice "buy where you want to stay" If you only need a two bedroom every 3-4 years perhaps you would be better off renting points on those occasions. I wouldn't buy SSR if you don't want to be there.
