It looks like it would cost us $5500 to fly to the states for a planning session, plus accom. plus spending money and so on...

As much as I'd love to do this, how important is it? I'd save up the extra money to do it, but DBF would probably chuck a wobbly and decide that a DFTW just isn't worth it...

We didn't do a planning session as we couldn't justify the cost, we wanted to the put the money towards the wedding day.

I found planning OK without the trip, the dis was a great help.

Ooh! Ooh! :hyper: I wanna know what "chuck a wobbly" means... so I can start using it! :rotfl:

Also, you will be fine without a planning session - just email you Floral Event Planner and Wedding Planner LOTS of pictures for things like colors, flowers, cake style, etc.

lol, yeah chuck a wobbly is obviously Australian then! :rotfl:

I was super disappointed to have my planning session over the phone. However, it went really well and lasted about an hour. We have been sending pictures and chatting over email about the details and I have no worries about how the day will go. The weather is another story though...I am praying for no rain constantly!

Thanks everyone.

Just another question. I know they suggest to have the planning session 4 - 6 months before the wedding. Is there any harm having it like 1 year before? I'd love to do it, but a year before the wedding would be much more suitable...

The reason they won't do one more than 6 months out is that pricing cannot be set in stone until then. It's hard to make sound choices if you don't really know what the prices will be (and they have been know to jump quite a bit, so you can't count on old prices being close...).

I know it can be a drag, especially if you don't live close enough to fly out 6 months before the wedding.... :sad2:

We did most of ours over the phone. We only spent a few hours with the DFTW crew just confirming decisions. The most time was spent on flowers. The team is really good at accomplishing it over the phone and especially if you have pictures and ideas you can send them to give them an idea of what you are looking for.

With regards to the planning session - does the groom have to be there? My DF won't be able to get anytime off before the wedding. It's not a prob for me to go (still stuck in college!!) and I'll be off next summer. Anyone have any thoughts on this? :confused3

And BTW - I love chuck a wobbly. :cool1:

My DF wasn't at my PS! We are local, so me, my DS, and DM drove down for the day. I didn't think he needed to take a whole day off from work to just sit in a room with us. My DF didn't really have any input for the wedding. I thought it was pretty cool at the wedding though because the food, flowers, etc. was a surprise for him!

Thanks muchly! :) I never thought of it that way. I'm thinking of getting my stepmother to come instead (she's in Lubbock TX). We're all the way up here in Maine, so for him to come we would have to make an 8hr drive to Boston, stay overnight there, and take a flight the next morning. It's just too much time with the wedding coming up. (By that time!)

Hey, I'm fellow Mainer... well, I have a house there that I go to a lot! It's in Port Clyde, just on a peninsula outside of Rockland/Camden area! What airport would you fly out of? My mom and grandmother both had delayed flights out of Portland recently, just an FYI! Glad to see a lot of Maine brides on here recently!

HAHA Chuck a Wobbly is tooo cute LOL! You will be fine just having your planning session over the phone. That price is way to crazy..save it for the wedding lol.

Always glad to see another Maine bride here! Especially from the beautiful Camden area. :goodvibes

I fly out of Logan, as I grew up in Worcester, MA and my dad lives there. So I drive down there, sleep over night and then fly out the next morning. To fly from Presque Isle, ME to Boston (which is the only flight out of here) is almost 400 alone. I'm thinking of also checking Manchester, NH to fly Southwest. That's only 90 minutes north of Worcester. I tell you, it's beautiful up here, but it's so difficult to get anywhere! ;)
