Does planning session have to be 6 months out or less ? Can it be 7-8 months ?

If you want costings it has to be done under 6 months as they don't confirm prices until then but I think they have let people do it sooner and then wait for their BEO.

We did ours at about 7 months and then just had to wait for our BEO's for a month.
