Planning question (HH-related)

In October 2008, I'm planning on staying 7 days at AKV, and on the way home stopping off by HH and staying 5 days there. AKV is my home resort. I had orginally thought that I would arrive October 5th (Sunday) at AKV and leave the next Sunday (the 13th) and drive to HHI and check in. However, I just realized that October 13th (Monday) is Columbus Day. I'm thinking it might be hard to get a studio or 1 BR at HH over Columbus Day weekend since I can only book 7 months in advance. I'm wondering if I should change my dates so that the first week at AKV coincides with Columbus Day weekend. With my 11 month booking advantage there, I'm sure I won't have any problem getting a place.

Any thoughts? Anyone know if Columbus Day weekend gets full at HH? I'd prefer to stick with my original dates, but I could change it if I had to.

I get the impression from everything here, plus when we've been there, that HHI gets real busy from May to September, but then is super quiet (except for Thanksgiving). We always go to HHI off season, and there aren't too many people there, except when we go during Thanksgiving week.

We've been to HH several times in October. Twice, we've had 1 BR and earlier this month we had a 2BR. We always make our reservations at 7 months. This year our trip included Columbus Day. Can't remember if in prior October trips it included Columbus Day or not, but we've been able to get what we want at 7 months for October. HTH! Early October is a great time to be there!

I don't know how hard it is to reserve at AKV, but I would think at this time that you might have a harder time getting AKV at 11 than HHI at 7.

If you are really concerned though, try the AKV for over "C" day and if it doesn't work out then go to plan "B" and try for HHI.

During all this if you come up just a day short... ask about cash rooms availability... in both cases.

You have to work the system... To be careful, you need to do DBD. I'm sure you know that though.

We have a vacation home on HHI, and you should not have any trouble getting in to the Resort in October. That's a wonderful time to go - crowd-wise and weather-wise. You generally don't even need reservations in the popular restaurants at that time. Good luck and enjoy.
