Planning our Wilderness Lodge Adventure! Nov 8-15 ~ We are back!

Aha! I will have great reading tonight....just popped over to check you out:)

What a doll he is:) (little guy....lol) Wil go back and catch up on yout trip report:)

Ava has something for Henry...go to the AKL thread to find out!

I hate budgeting -- I always wish I had unlimited funds at Disney! It would make it so much easier :).

Henry is so cute -- just looking at him in his stroller makes me miss my two being itty-bitty!

Henry is too cute. I love this picture. Great pre trip report. Have you thought about doing Cirque then going to Raglan Rose for dinner?

DH is anti-anything even related to circus...so acrobats (and that's pretty much what it is, right?) so, we've never really looked at Cirque. I hear it's amazing, and while I would probably enjoy it, I don't think my DH would....

Can you take little one's to that show too?

I have read so many great reviews of the GF Tea that I talked my DH into going with me on our next WDW visit.:goodvibes Oybolshoi (Brenda) recently wrote a awesome review on the GF Tea. She also ordered a few special desserts from the GF Bakery to be served at the Tea.

I read a ton of good reviews, then saw the FOOD pictures and my heart kept skipping beats so I HAD to ask DH! :) I'm sooooooo excited! I gotta find Oybolshoi's report...it sounds familar, so maybe I read it, but I dunno. I read one report on the tea twice it was so good! Yea yea yea yea yea for the tea! :cool1:

I gotta figure out how much those little desserts cost to be delivered....and somehow sneak the payment past DH's eyes...considering he balances the checkbook, this might be interesting!

You are so so sweet! I gushed over on the Jambo Lite thread and I'm gushing again!!!!!!!! I just can't believe it. I called my DH over to the computer this morning and said "See this little girl?" (showing him the pic of Ava (love that name by the way!)) He says "Ooooh, cutie." "Look at her shirt." He laughs and smiles. "They are going to send that to Henry so he can wear it on his first trip!" He looked at me like I looked when I read your comment:  Thank you again!  I'm SO excited to have him wear it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll take lots of pics and be sure to share them on the Jambo thread!

And thank you for the comments on Henry. :goodvibes He is an incredible blessing in our lives!

Oh, I am so with you! I could spent a TON of money at Disney. Because we are budgeting, we have more money to spend than we EVER have, so it feels a lot different-like we have unlimited funds! From the quick numbers I ran, we are able to do just about everything-and have money left over! :yay: But more on that later.....

Thank you for the compliments on Henry. :flower3: I love him being a little baby, but there are days I want him to be 4 or 5! I know it all goes by sooooo quickly though, I try to creish every moment with him now.

Henry is so cute!!! His hat is great- I love those kinds of hats with the wide brim all the way around and chin strap for little ones! You're budgeting sounds so smart, although it can be so tedious to do, it always feels good though at the end!

03-01-2008 - I have a feeling I have to do THAT...

The most dreaded...

budget.

Sigh.

Yuck. I hate the budget too. It's good that you are doing so much planning though. I'd hate to get home from a trip and face a pile of bills. I'm starting to save for 2009 already - but I'm not very organized about it. No set amounts - just setting aside anything that seems to be left over at the end of couple of weeks. I also save $1 bills - and they add up fast!

Check out my hat! (I sooooo wanted to buy this for him!)

Thank you! :goodvibes I love those kind of hats too...and I'm thinkin' DS will need one for Disney...:rolleyes1

Ya, the budgeting is good-and once I get into it, I enjoy it, it's just finding that motiviation....

Thank you---all you gals (and guys?) are so sweet! :flower3:

DH and I used to not have a real budget at all, then we took Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and got our rears in gear. We have saved SO much and we live a much more relaxed and, we feel, luxurious lifestyle. I cannot believe how much money we wasted...:headache: Saving the $1 bills is a great idea! Hmmm...I wonder if we could incorporate that for our May trip to NYC...

03-02-2008 - Results of the Number Crunching: GREAT news!

Turns out, the budget was much, much easier than I thought it would be. AND, we have more money than I thought we would! :woohoo: I was very liberal with spending and allocating money to the necessary places (tips, Garden View tea, extra food for Henry, etc.) and we still have enough left over to do several of the Magic Makers!

Enough that we should be able to buy one of our plane tickets with this money as well--and the other plane ticket can either come from our saved up "Getaway Fund", or one of our bonus checks. (Side note: both DH and I get monthly bonus checks due to being on-call for work. It's a nice perk!)

This is all such a relief. I was pretty nervous about all this working out and really thought I might be getting ahead of myself with my dreaming. There are about 10 more things I would LOVE to do (like stay an extra week! ), but I don't want to blow every last penny. It will be nice to have a very luxurious (by our standards) vacation and come home with money in our pockets.

So, we've done ADRs as far as I can go right now, we've done Magic Makers, we've done the budget....EMHs aren't out for November yet...what next?

I'm thinkin' baby stuff. I need to learn more about strollers, what to bring to the park (don't wanna bring TOO much, but don't wanna not bring enough either) travelling with a baby, rides he can and cannot go on, look at the ADRs I have brought the list down to and see what the menus are and if he will even be able to eat there, think about what kind of food to bring/ship down/what we can buy. All that funness. I need to get all my thoughts blobbed out on here and seek out more advice from fellow DISsers. I'm thinkin' I'll be hitting the Family board quite a bit this week!

Oooh, I also want to research WL a bit more and search out pics of the grounds and the rooms, I don't think I have seen much recent stuff. Or at least not enough recent stuff. :teeth: I also have to call and adjust my ressie. Cannot forget that!

You think I'll run out of stuff to research before November? :confused3 :rotfl:

03-04-2008 - I can't get my mind off the food!

So despite EMHs not being out, and me not being able to really plan our days until then (weather we decide to AVOID the parks with EMHs or to use the EMHs is still under debate)...I cannot get away from thinking about our ADRs! :confused3 :rotfl2:

I have made a "tentative" schedule here...and ya, I know, some of the places that are listed weren't on my finals list...after reviewing menus a bit and discussing with DH and seeing pics, some things have changed...big surprise, eh?:

Arrival Day-no parks, explore resort, rest, swim, etc:
Roaring Forks - 1 CS (could be moved to departure day, depending on flight times)
Dinner: 'Ohana - 1 TS

Animal Kingdom Day:
Lunch: Yak & Yeti, AK - 1 TS
Dinner: Wolfgang Pucks Express - 1 CS

Epcot Day:
Lunch: Sunshine Seasons - 1 CS
Dinner: LeCellier - 1 TS

Hollywood Studios Day:
Lunch: 50's Prime Time - 1 TS
Dinner: Mama Melrose - 1 TS

No parks day, DTD (Festival of the Masters), swim, relax, "Magic Makers". etc:
Lunch: Earl of Sandwich - 1 CS
Dinner: Whispering Canyon Cafe - 1 TS

Magic Kingdom Day:
Lunch: Columbia Harbor House - 1 CS
GARDEN ROOM TEA!!!! (OOP)
Dinner: Cosmic Rays - 1 CS

Going home day :sad1: :
Breakfast: Kona (OOP)

(ETA...a reminder to myself: If flight times require both a lunch on arrival and departure day, use CS credits for both and pay OOP for Earl of Sandwich if it's cheaper than Roaring Forks.)

After speaking with DH AGAIN last night about ADRs I caught him sorta bored and half rolling his eyes at my "should we do this, or this?" questions. Which frustrates me because he is so picky! If he wasn't picky, I would just make the ADRs and he would get what he gets, but he WILL comment about the food, and then I will feel bad for not picking what he would like, YET, he won't fully contribute. :headache: I don't get it. And he doesn't understand that we really should make our ADRs at the 180 day mark - in 2006 we had no problems, but we didn't choose any "in demand" places and we ate late dinners. We can't really do that with a little one quite as easily. I do know I have been talking Disney non-stop for almost a month, so I'm sure he's getting sick of it all too... I've made a decision in my mind to make today a "No Disney Talk" day for his benefit. But man, I've had to catch myself several times!

I'm half just debating being solid on the above food schedule and he'll just have to deal! I hate do to that to him, but seriously....

And who knows, he might suddenly have an opinion and this will all change. :rotfl:

Everything sounds so yummy on your ADRs! I know what you mean about DH and not understanding the need to plan. Every now and then, my DH does the exact same thing! I have even tried the not talking about Disney for a day, but it never seems to work. You'll be surprised though -- every once in awhile DH will suddenly have an idea or a request or a suggestion. I always want to throw my arms around mine and say, "You do really care about our vacation!" ;)

Glad I'm not alone! :) I haven't said a WORD about anything except when he asked who I was calling---I was calling Disney of course. He asked why, and I said to make sure they have the requests right, DH had forgotten to ask for INNER Courtyard when we were booked to Courtyard view. The CM was really nice, she mentioned the Whispering Canyon Cafe and to "Ask for ketchup." I've seen pictures of what this request brings!!!! :lmao:

So, we'll see how this day goes - it's not easy to not talk about it all. I do hope he surprises me and gives me some good input.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the ADRs too! The more I look at them, the more confident I feel about them. Now, tomorrow, when I can talk about Disney ;) I will read the menus to DH and we'll see....

Our ADRs are the one thing I have managed to keep without changing a million times :). Food is ultra important to us -- we don't mess around when it comes to our Disney meals.

DH laughs at me when I call Disney, because I get giddy when they wish me a "magical day." I am so disappointed when I get a CM that just says, "Have a nice night." I want to say, "That's not what you are supposed to say. Wish me a magical night, darn it!" That, and I like singing the Disney songs when they put me on hold.

I totally forgot about the "Have a magical day!" I'm not sure if the CM I spoke to the other day said it or not....hmmm...maybe I'll have to call Disney just for kicks. ;)

03-07-2008 - Two Thumbs Up from DH :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

The other night DH came up to me and said "Guess what? We're going to Disney World!" And due to my 'No Disney Talk' for the past couple of days, I just responded with a less-than-enthusastic "Yeah." He looked at me like I was crazy! So, I launched into my frustration with him not seeming to care or have an opinion now, but knowing he WILL have an opinion when we are there....I went to tons of work and research to seek out the highest reviewed places, that in addition had food we would both enjoy, and so he wouldn't be stuck with steak every meal. And I feel like it's been a total waste...

He explained he didn't realize that is how he had been, he apologized several times and said he missed my school-girl excitement and wanted me to have the freedom to talk about it all I wanted. He said he would make a better effort to listen and if he was too tired, or just didn't want to talk Disney, he would tell me so up front.

So...yea! :goodvibes I'm really glad we had the talk. And last night he asked to see what I had done so far! So, I showed him the ADR schedule I posted earlier and he looked at each menu online and got pretty excited about the different places. He made particular comments about 50s Prime Time (due to decor), Cosmic Rays (again, decor), Wolfgang Pucks Express ("There are like 50 things on here that I want to order!") and Sunshine Seasons, which he also remembered from 2006. He said he is also looking forward to a "Late night snack of pepperoni pizza!" from Roaring Forks (the WL food court) He even looked at the Garden View Tea menu!!!!! :lovestruc

Now I feel really good about these choices, he liked everything and how I had it all laid out.

Oh, and I sent him a picture of Tonga Toast that I found here on the DIS. His response? "Why aren't we going to tomorrow?" :lmao: Love that man!

Okay, up next, is the baby stuff...for real this time. I really need to search it all out and see how Disney is with a 14 month old. One of my biggest questions is about him eating off our plates. Will he be able to eat the food we get? I am not worried about buffets or family style, but there are only a couple on our list. I am thinking I'll have to order a side of somethin' for him...but just want to seek out advice on it all.

Also, does anyone know how much a cab is from WL to the closest grocery store or Wal*Mart? I would like to be able to purchase either goat's milk or organic milk for him and store it in our room.

And, we need to stroller hunt. Gotta do that prior to the NYC trip...

It always makes my day -- even when we are at Disney and the security guard has just finished rifling through all my belongings :). It's one of the many reasons I love Disney World!

Hooray! I am so glad that DH decided to be enthusiastic! When you have a willing participant, it always makes planning much more fun!

I've been catching up on your pre-trip and your ADR and CS plans look great!!! Glad DH s getting into the disney planning mode!
For your DS eating it just depends on what his tastes are and yours - my DD loves pasta, rice, vegetables and fruits so when we went out when she was Henrys age if I got pasta I gave her some of mine and ordered a side of veggies and/or fruit. If I wanted something different I somtimes ordered her a childs meal. My niece on the other hands loves meat and potatos as well as pasta and fruit so it was very easy for my brother and SIL to feed her from their plate at 14 months - she would eat chicken, steak, mashed potatoes, pasta etc... and their meal choices often matched her "likes"
Are you looking for a lightweight umbrella type stroller? We're looking into new ones because we bought one for DD when she was about 1 and have learned now that she's almost 3 and tall and heavy for her age that the Combi stroller we bought2 ys ago is not going to work (she can drage her feet or put them on the wheels so steering is tough!)so we're eying the (pricey but bigger height wise and have a higher weight limit) Maclaren ones

Hi Brook, I'm so enjoying your pre-trip report. Your ADR's look great.

It really does! I'm so glad he is just telling me "Hon, I don't wanna talk about it right now, how about in a bit?" instead of me going on and on, only to realize he isn't listening. He is acutally asking questions now and all that-I think it's making him more excited too. I know he's not into the planning quite as much as me, but he "gets it" that I want his opinion now. Yea!

Thank you for the advice! I wonder what Henry will be into at 14 months....I suppose, budget wise, at this point I will plan on ordering him sides or kids meals and we'll see what happens!

I would love to get a Maclaren-those are great strollers. I'm not sure if we'll fork out the money for one of these or not. Though...we are thinking of moving to NYC within a few years, so we will NEED a good, lightweight stroller...:scratchin

Hi Brook, I'm so enjoying your pre-trip report. Your ADR's look great.

Thanks!!! I'm so so excited and still have SO LONG to wait! I have 2 months before I can even make the ADRs! :upsidedow
