Planning for other people

Who all has planned trips for other people or families going with you -- who put their trip / activities in your hands... Did you plan differently than if it was just your family? How did it go?

I have done this a few times , when friends joined me on my California trips in different years. It never really worked out, one year was such a spectacular disaster, one of the group ditched us , moved to a different hotel mid vacation and none of us have spoken since!
