Planning for October with or without a discount?

We are definitely going to WDW in October and already have bought plane tickets. I have not booked rooms because I can't decide on our best option but need to book something so I can make dining reservations next week. Do I book a room only and possibly add the rest of the package later and avoid the $200 package deposit? Do I bite the bullet and reserve the package? Or should I go for the AAA discount in case the fall promotions don't materialize? I just can't decide but know I need a reservation number to make our dining plans. Thanks!
