I have been designated "auntie in charge" for my niece's wedding July28.

Anyways, the wedding was scheduled for next March, but after the death of the groom's father two weeks ago they decided they didn't want to wait. DH's grandmother is sick and they are afraid to put it off till next year.

I need help with a few ideas for the wedding. Since yesterday I found some very inexpensive invitations that just happened to be in one of her colors (blue & purple), but they look plan to me. Any ideas on how I can dress them up without breaking the bank or spending a lot of time we don't have. I did buy lilac ribbon to match the invites.

There are two favors that she would like to give away at the reception: wrapped candy bars and forget-me-not seeds. I found free templates for the candy bars and plan to design something similar to the invitations. But I can't think of a cute way to package the seeds.

Lastly, I need ideas for centerpieces that can be put together quickly. So far I have a box of 72 blue votive candle holders.

If you were planning a quick wedding what things would you not do without?

Any help is appreciated.

is the wedding at home or a destination wedding??

the colors are blue & purple, right?

when you speak of cutting costs & so on, are you meaning items for the reception only like decorations & favors or the whole wedding?

as for the seed, they have these mini terra cotta pots at walmart or other craft stores...you could put the seeds in there & wrap it with tulle & ribbon or something like that

as for the invites......go to the scrapbooking section of a Michaels crafts....meca for paper crafts..& look for coupons to help with $$

I'm not sure if you have a Hobby Lobby close but they have all of their bridal section 50% off.

For the invites I could use your purple ribbon that put it through 2 wholes in the top of the invite. You can get little charms that are hearts, butterflies, etc. I would but one of those on the top. That would be plenty I would think.

For the centerpieces. Target has pretty glass bowls in their $1 spot. You could put maybe a floating purple rose, some rose petals on the tables with your votives. By the way. Dollar tree had large bags of white, pink and red rose petals today. Dollar tree is another idea they had alot of pretty wedding things.

I must say you are the queen of wedding crafts! :worship: LOL

Since you already have votives, you can also go to Michaels and get the fake rose petals that they have. You can sprinkle them around the centerpiece and votives. I have a look of images of centerpieces on file, some simple and elegant to over the top. E-mail if you would like to see more. I can't post pictures on here yet.

It will be a church wedding with the reception to follow at a local dance studio (the studio was free to use).

As far as the ceremony she was given a beautiful dress, my sis-in-law is making all the flowers, my mother-in-law will sew the dress for the bridesmaids, my husband is doing the music, my mom is doing the food (she doesn't know that yet :rotfl:), and we are going to a local bakery for the cake.

Where I am trying to cut costs is on the reception decorations and favors.
I have about 8 medium terra cotta pots that I bought for a baby shower, but I could use them for the wedding too. I was thinking of using them for the favors some kind of way--just don't know how.

Check out my blog for the updates on the invites and thank you cards. My Blog

I played around with Photoshop and came up with two monograms that will be used for the invites, programs, and favors.

I also wanted to share this cute picture with you guys. My niece is in Indiana until the end of the month, so the groom, my DH, another friend, and I are putting the invites together. The day we started assemblying them my DH also wanted to have some guys over to play a board game.

The groom decided he could do both, so here is a picture of him multitasking. I thought that it was too cute.

Another idea you could use is mirrors--I was at a wedding not long ago, and she had done her own centerpieces--with mirrors in the center of the table, flower petals, little crystals, and votives around and on the mirrors--the mirrors made the lights reflect--and it looked beautiful!

Your invitations look beautiful. Your neice is so lucky to have you helping her out.

I also love the monogram...what font did you use?

Chantelle,

Thank you for the compliment on my niece's invites. We worked for three days to complete 150, so its nice to hear that someone likes them. The font that I used for the first monogram was Scriptina and the second one was Chopin Script. Both fonts can be downloaded for free at Dafont.

I love the first monogram, how did you do that??

Orangetiggs,

I did the monograms in Adobe Photoshop. I saved them so if you wanted either one personalized for yourself just shoot me a pm with names, colors, and date and I can make it for you.

First of all she is extremely lucky to have such a nice "auntie in charge" The invitations are absolutely gorgeous. Have you ever thought about doing this for a living....you have amazing ideas. I am very interested in seeing your candy wrappers. I recently just finished designing my own for a babyshower and would love to see yours.

For the table cantres how about a planter of some sort with Lavender in it? One it fits into the colours and two it smells beautiful. You could add some ribbon to the pot and maybe put a few candles on the table too.
Good luck with the planning, I'm sure she will have a great day and everything will be beautiful.

I bought flower pots and white paint and we are seriously considering painting them and using wide purple ribbon to tie bows around them. Thanks for the well-wishes.

Sherry,

I can promise you that the wrapper will not win me any awards, but the bride likes them so we will keep them.

I also attached the seed packets that we are hand cutting and filling with Forget-Me-Not Seeds to give to the guests.

You ladies are good about giving an honest opinion. The bride and groom's list of invites for the wedding and shower almost doubled what they originally estimated.

I bought invites for the shower and ran out. Of course the invites were some that we found in Florida on clearance. I am trying to make some similar to the original ones. I need honest feedback on the invite. My husband is suppose to be telling me what he thinks, but I need advice from women. ;) The purple border looks grainy in the picture, but it is showing and printing as a solid color from my computer.
