Do any of you plan for upcoming trips in the new year before resort prices are released? I would like to get a head start for once and plan out some of the bigger trips for next year, but I feel I'm a stopping point until prices are released. I usually just research prices, book the resort, and figure out food (this year alone will be 4 trips). What else do you do other than that to make things go smoothly? I would like to plan this one trip out since it will include more people, first timers, some convincing, and end of May (I have zero experience going to Disney in peak seasons). IMO it's pretty crazy I can't see prices past December yet.

Can't answer your question, but I'm currently planning my trip for next year, too.

We are trying to book a room only for March and can't do it online. Hoping they open their schedule soon. Looking offsite as well.

I start making lists of things we want to do and where we want to eat and then, as refurbs or closures and park hours are announced, adjust accordingly. As for pricing, I just go by the rack rates from previous years and, again, when the actual rates come out, I adjust accordingly.

Packages should be released any time in the next few weeks.

I'm in the same boat - I have two WDW trips planned for next year (one will be cutting it close to 180 days by the time the packages come out) and I want to finalize what I can. I've got a huge list of potential ideas and ADRs, but I can't get a timeline until I know how many days I can afford to stay.

Disney is great with customer service, but this is one area that needs much improvement.

How far in advance can you book a room? I want to book for February 2017 and it won't go that far out online :-(

499 days from the last date of your trip. You can call and book it now, or the rumor is, 2017 packages go on sale June 21. Now, that won't include 2017 dates that are more than 499 days out though. Last year we booked our upcoming Christmas trip 488 days out...I was anxious, LOL!!

It has been posted in a few places that 2017 prices will be released on June 21. We're planning a March 2017 trip, and I'm excited to start the planning in a couple weeks.

I'm sort of planning for next year's trip but only halfhearted right now. I'll have definite quotes for my husband sans discount on June 21st and from there we will pick the resort. (because I am seriously torn on which resort) I won't even touch booking until a discount comes out.

I also have done this for years, but I'm reading on here that people book the room at rack rate then get the discount when it comes out. I started going in 2009 when the economy was bad and Disney was begging people to visit. Recently though I've been having issues with rooms that I'm used to getting being booked up if I wait too long. It seems like an ideal thing to do depending on the season and where you stay.

I've considered this but in reality, my dates are somewhat fluid and I am open to many of the deluxe hotels. If I was considering staying in a room that rarely had a discount (like the mermaid rooms or POR) then I would have booked already.

I first decide what resort we want to stay at and when we want to go. I contact our travel agent who has some good discounts and ask when they will ready to book. As of right now she said fall they will come out for August which is when we have decided to go. So I'm just waiting now, while waiting I have been going through the resort threads to decide which resort we want for sure and how many days and what dates. I have also thought of a few places we want to reserve to eat and plan to make a day for Disney Springs since we havent gone there in a few years.

I booked my package a few days ago for CSR in May. The week we wanted to go already had the room type we wanted sold out, so we are going the following week. I was trying to avoid spring break/Easter and also summer, so that doesn't leave a huge window of time with Easter falling in mid-April next year. I was nervous that the resort would get booked up and then we wouldn't be able to stay there. If a discount comes out later that can be applied to my reservation, I'll call Disney and see if they can help me out with that. We just booked at a price we're comfortable with and if we can get it for lower later, that's a bonus.

I myself am planning a 2017 Sept trip to WL.

Right now its full pricing without discounts. I'll pay off as much as I can beforehand and once the packages/sales/etc are released I'll call and get my $$$ back or get a discount or meal package for free.

We book do bounce backs if that counts. It's always a year in advance. Then we start timers for 180 days 60 days and 30 days.

We are planning to go in March, and don't really do much until a discount comes out or hopefully our TA has a special. We do not like DP so will only make 1-2 ADR's when Oct. rolls around. Then at the 60 day mark, will do the FP's.
