Planning a honeymoon at Disney this year...

I had initially planned to go to Greece, but my fiance really wants to go to Disney, and seeing as the US dollar isn't worth anything overseas any more, I figured it isn't a bad idea.

That said.. I'm a total newbie at Disney. I went last when I was in high school, some 10 years ago. I don't know where to stay, which parks to visit, whether I need a rental car, etc. My fiance is all about the "rides", the more exhilirating the better. The plan is go to for 4 days -- July 27th to the 31st. We will have an early morning flight on the 27th and get into Florida by noonish, and begin our day.

First, should I book airline tickets on my own or try to get them as part of a package? Any hotels you would recommend? I am not trying to break the bank, so no "motels" and I've been told it's best to stay in the resorts. How about tickets for the parks?

Again, any information would be appreciated -- I am unfamiliar with a "Disney" vacation and so I'd like to make sure I get everything sorted out now, since in July I just want to go and have a good time.

Also -- I want to go swimming with the dolphins... my fiance would LOVE that. Is this part of a package as well, or something I have to add on separately?

Thanks again for all your help!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

You have come to the right place for advice on planning your Disney honeymoon.

There are advantages and disadvantages to booking packages as opposed to booking things yourself separately.

The advantages are that everything in your package is "booked" for you. One price, little coordination on your part, etc.

The biggest disadvantage is that the packages usually cost more (not always, but usually).

I would highly suggest talking to a travel agent who can help you make some basic decisions. I know AAA often has some great Disney packages for members (the membership would definitely be worth it).

Also, explore around this whole board for more ideas:

Check out the Resorts Board for input on the Disney resorts.

Check out the Orlando Hotels and Attractions board for ideas of places off site to stay. You'll probably find lots of information about Discovery Cove there as well (for the dolphin encounter). The Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies board might have a lot of ideas for you too!

Since your planned dates are just about 6 months from now (and in a busy season) you might also want to check out the Disney Restaurants board to decide where you might like to have some special dinners. You should plan to make Advanced Dining Reservations (ADR's) at the six month mark to make sure you get what you want.

Spend as much time as you can "crusing" the boards here and you will learn alot very quickly.

Good luck!!
