Planned refurbishments

Does the planned refurbishment schedule come out at the same times as the park hours? I'm stressed out planning our trip this year because not only do we want to make sure we get the hotel we want but we also have a dog now and we need to book her spot in her boarding facility before they fill up! But we usually try to schedule our trip when our favorite rides will be open!

Anyone know what the refurbishment schedule is for May? Is it the same every year? If so, maybe I can guesstimate based on last year...

Thanks

The DIS board has a schedule that is update every so often.
You'll find it here http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneyland/plan.htm#rehab

There are other websites that track refurbishments but I don't pay much attention to this when planning a trip.

Disney adds refurbish dates to the map.
To use the Disneyland maps. Click on the "*" of the attraction to bring up the pop-up. You'll see info on the attraction. If it has a time scheduled for Refurbishment it usually is posted .

I just went through this same process for my trip two weeks ago. I spent a lot of time researching and stressing about refurbishments and still ended up having to deal with a ton of them. Disney does not make it easy to predict what will be down.

Having said that, from all the research I've done, I think you will be in pretty good shape for May 2017. Other than what we already know about (Railroad, Fantasmic, Rivers of America, etc.), I'd be surprised if there were any further refurbishments announced for major attractions. Matterhorn and Grizzly River Run should be back up before May. The wildcard might be Guardians of the Galaxy, which is scheduled to open at the end of May. They could easily delay that until June or be having soft openings in April. It's hard to say.

I needed to ask the same questions. Im going May 15-16 and wanted to make sure Matterhorn was going to be open...I dont want to miss it on my first trip

So does anyone know what "Summer 2017" means exactly? I'm hoping the railroad might be back up towards the end of May...

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it will be. They announced that GotG would be opening at the end of May and that the RoA attractions and the railroad would be opening "later" in the summer.

Just noticed that the Indiana Jones ride is listed as closed beginning May 1st on the Disneyland website. Not sure how accurate this is or for how long.

It is common for there to be attractions down until Memorial Day. Matterhorn is supposed to open April 28/29. It's not surprising that Indy could be going down right after that. It seems that Indy has been closed in April the last few years. Hopefully DCA will not have another major attraction close since TOT has not reopened as Mission Breakout yet.

The last time we visited Disneyland was May 2015. Peter Pan and Matterhorn were both supposed to open early May and both were delayed. Matterhorn opened just in time for the 60th (Memorial Day weekend) and Peter Pan was delayed until July. The best time for someone looking for no/minimal closures to visit would be July. But it's hot and super crowded. The Rivers of America (and all associated attractions) are rumored to reopen in July. Though Disney simply said later in Summer.

Im going to be in the park May 16...I really hope it's a quick refurb. I desperately wanted to ride it

If Disneyland gives you the list of refurbs at the 6 week mark, then I'd say you're lucky. Over the past few years, they've been dropping some refurbs on us with less than 2 weeks notice. But what are you gonna do? It's not like at WDW where you can move your reservation easily to another Disney resort. At DL, if you have a hotel across the street booked and want to move your trip by a week just a month out (because of refurb info), you'll seldom get a good room that you've planned and reserved 6 months out.

:sad2: Clearly I haven't learned my lesson that you're never safe from Disney announcing more ride refurbishments. I'm sorry to see this will impact your trip. Indiana Jones is a great ride. At least you should have Pirates, Grizzly River Run and Matterhorn (maybe) for your trip. We missed all of those on hours.

I feel like this is a genuine issue with Disney. They make it really hard to plan around their refurbishments, and I'm sure this is a deliberate decision on their part. Maybe if more people voice their complaints, they'll start making it easier to see the list of planned refurbishments and also release the information more than a month or two in advance. I'm glad they are taking care of their attractions, but I'd like to be able to plan around it.
