Since we're staying at OKW next trip, I figure it's time to try some of the DTD restaurants.

DS has been asking to go to Planet Hollywood (he's all about movies - wants to "direct") and I guess this would be the trip to do it.

How's the food? We'd be happy with a great burger, not looking for anything fancy or inventive, mostly going for the atmosphere.

Any comments?

TIA!

PH usually gets mostly bad reviews here, but we have eaten there 4 times now and really enjoy it. The food has always been good-excellent for us. The service has been good too(once a little slow at the beginning, but it picked up). It is a loud retuarant but thats part of the atmosphere there...and with my kids thats a good thing. ;)
I cant say I have any complaints about PH and I would go back again.

While I've never been to the Planet Hollywood in Disney, I've been to the one in Atlantic City. Their burgers are great. My son (about 10 at the time) commented to the waitress that it was the best burger he'd ever had. She told the manager and they came over and gave him a special pin. We've been several times since. The portions are huge.

It's cool for the movie clips they show and the memorabilia they have all around. Not cheap, but not outrageously priced either.

We ate here last time. It gets a little busy, other than that I really enjoyed it and so did the kids. The food was good and the atmosphere was fun. I would give it a try.

I've eaten at the DTD one a couple of times (ONLY because we had GCs to spend), and also at other locations. I don't enjoy it, never have, but others seem to. I think its a tourist trap, more than anything else.

It's crazy loud and cramped. We felt like we were dining with the two tables nearest us. We have always gotten horrible service, as well. THe food is okay, I guess, but overpriced and typical American fare. Plus, it's a chain, and when I do Disney, and spend that kind of money on a meal, I'd rather eat at a Disney exclusive restaurant, not just a chain. Now, we eat offsite at chains as well, but we don't spend 1/4 what we do at Planet Hollywood. Like i said, we've only dined there for free =)

If your son wants to go, I'd go. If you aren't sure about the meals, go for drinks and dessert. That will at least give him the chance to check out all the memorabilia, see the videos, etc.

=)

Thanks everyone - I feel I owe it to DS because he's a picky eater and is a good sport about going to places the rest of us want to try (picture him at Restaurant Akershus!).

I'm glad a few folks have enjoyed it - as long as we can get some good burgers, we'll try it!

We really liked it when we ate there in February. There were 5 of us, and all of us were really happy with our food. The service was great. But we did eat when it was a little slower. I don't think we had lunch until nearly 2. The waiter actually sat down at our table and talked about the weather back home compared to the weather there. He was a northerner, so he wanted to chat. The atmosphere is really fun for those interested in movies, and even those who aren't. We're very seriously considering eating there again if we go back to DTD in April. We had a great experience and would not hesitate to eat there again. It was actually a $5 off coupon that we had from our condo that convinced us to go there, but with or without a coupon we would go back.

We have eaten there 3 or 4 times and always liked it. Have also been to the Las Vegas and Atlantic City locations. We ate there in May, we had the chicken crunch appetizer and split a club sandwich. Pretty good!

We try to do a late lunch/early dinner to avoid crowds.

If the chicken crunch appetizer is the Cap'n Crunch chicken I remember from when they first opened. it's surprisingly good! I was there with a friend who'd tried it before and recommended it. I thought it sounded horrible, but it was sweet, a little spicy and crunchy. We shared that, and I remember the burgers being good too. We waited in a huge line and it was REALLY noisy, but the memorabilia was fun to look at and for a chain the food wasn't bad.

I tend to agree with Aimeedyan above by saying that we've never like Planet Hollywood (food, service - poor in our book)...but, with that being said, I think that you should 'experience' it. Your son will love it, I'm sure, just don't be expecting a whole lot.

BTW, this place is packed at night, so you may want to plan to go in the afternoon or as an early dinner (5:00 or so).

Does anyone remember what burgers and fries cost? We have the dreammaker package and I was wondering what the cost of eating here for like lunch was? I didn't know if it'd be a good value since we get the 25 dollar gc as one of our options to choose from. Any thoughts

Don't remember offhand, but I'd say allow at least $10 -$15 per person (burger & fries, drink).

I tried to check the menu on the website, but it doesn't list the prices.

We just ate there on Saturday. So sad to be back home now:( We all got pastas and it was about $12 a plate for adults, about $6 for a children's portion. It was just DH, DD6 and myself and our bill after the $25 off coupon was about $35. We did get drinks and DD had the make-you-own sundae. The atmosphere is really great for a movie buff! Great things surround you from all kind of movie sets. But...the atmosphere is very loud and crowded (they really pack people in that place). The service wasn't great and I would recommend going early. When we left the restaurant at 7:00, there was a long wait. There is a place on the web though to get a coupon that allows you to "avoid the wait" if you have to go late. Sorry, I can't find a link right now, but I had found it in a thread on these boards before we left so just do a search. One more thing...the portion sizes are HUGE, so you can easily split anything. We felt bad that we had wasted so much food when we left. Have a great time!

We ate there 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. The wait was very, very long and it was loud. I mean like college bar on Saturday night after you just won the big game loud. But...the place is really amazing. I just loved looking at all the memorabilia. I could spend hours in there just looking at the stuff. The food was good. I think I got spaghetti and I liked it. I don't remember what DS and DH got but I do remember we enjoyed it and will go back in March.

I enjoyed it. And yes, the burgers are great. My DD had a pizza and she loved that. We were fortunate to have VIP passes from our travel agent, so we werent crowded in with everyone else. I would definitely go back there again.

Just got my Mouse Tips in the mail - and the authors wrote a trashing review of Planet Hollywood!

I think I'll skip it, now. From the responses I've gotten here, plus the review, I think DH will blow a gasket at this place. Not worth it, as long lines and poor service will cause him to freak out.

We've always enjoyed it! Last time we went I had the chicken caesar salad, and I couldn't finish it all, which is VERY unusual for me! My boys and hubby had cheeseburgers and we always get the capn crunch chicken fingers for appetizer. We're going in 3 weeks again, with gift cards from Hotwire. We're definitely lookin forward to it!

Walked up around 3-4pm and sat right down, great service & good food. We stuck to bugers and appetizers though.

I've always thought it was just an "ok" place to dine. I've never had a BAD meal there, but then I've never had a great one either. It is just sort of a cookie cutter restaurant with nothing that stands out in my opinion.

If anyone wants the recipe for the Capn Crunch Chicken, just PM me and I'll send it to you!
