PLAN WITHOUT FP PLANNING IN ADVANCE ~ DECEMBER

Hello Everyone ~ DH and I are planning to come down the first week of December which is historically a slow period. We only book our room reservation rather than a package so that we can cancel the room (5 days before arrival) without penalty as we are care-givers for an ill, elderly parent and a package would give us penalties if we had to cancel.

We are thinking of just getting our tickets when we arrive and then booking fastpasses then. Are are nuts???

You might have trouble getting FP+ for SDMT, TSMM or A&E but otherwise you should be fine.

Soarin' and TT at EP will probably also be difficult. Good thing there is you can hit Soarin' at rope drop and do TT with the single rider line.

We were able to change our Soarin same day on the fly last visit (first week of Dec. 2014) and we single rider(ed) TT. Might miss out on TSMM, 7DMT, A&E and the parades but sometimes you get lucky. Maybe if you can pick up a MVMCP ticket or EMH you should not have to worry. ADRs no problem because there is mostly a 24 hour cancellation, though some are longer, just be sure to read the cancellation notices.

You could buy your tickets ahead of time, link them to your MDE and make FP+ reservations. Then if you end up cancelling the room only reservation, you can just save the tickets and use them whenever you end up visiting. UNUSED tickets never expire.

Of course this is only optimal if you are sure you will visit sometime in the future.

Best wishes with your elderly parent. We cared for and lost 5 parents/step parents in a two and a half year period several years ago. Looking back, of course it was a wrenching experience, but we treasure the memories and do not regret one moment of care we gave to them. Even though it's a natural "phase" of life, it's not easy!

Thanks everyone for the information. Subtchr ~ I completely understand what you're saying. We took care of another ill, elderly parent for numerous years and she passed almost two years ago now, but you're right and treasuring the memories.

I think we'll purchase the tickets in advance as long as they don't then tie us up in a package so that if we need to cancel the room we can; Disney is my home-away-from-home so the tickets will get used one way or another!!!

I actually just managed to snag a BOG lunch reservation for our last day in the parks ~ I was surprised that one was available.
