Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on places to stay after the Alaskan cruise in Vancouver, near the port or downtown Vancouver that accommodates early check in? I'm guessing we'll be off the ship by 9am or so. 9am is still the all disembark time, same as cruises out of Port Canaveral, correct? Most hotels' check in time is after 3pm.

I'm so spoiled by WDW on site hotels that will store your luggage for you if they don't have a room available for early check in. Is there anything that would work similarly in Vancouver?

Almost all hotels in the world will hold your luggage for you before official checkin time. Actually I know of none that won't. Two hotels in dh's 6 years of half-the-year travel wouldn't let him do some of the checkin process ahead of time. All the rest let him do the process but he just had to wait until later to actually get his room.

Long story short you'll have no issues leaving your bags before checkin time.

If you want something nice I strongly recommend club level at the hyatt regency. I like Listel Hotel on Robson. There are three Fairmonts in downtown. There are two Westins that were nice the last time we stayed there. :)

We actually stayed at the airport. There's a Fairmont there and we had an early flight the next day. The nice thing about that is that there's a service at the port called CDS Baggage and they will take your bags to the Fairmont for you. Up to four bags are $40 CAD. It was great to sight see that day without our luggage and then take the train to the airport and turn in for the night.

The Pan Pacific is located in the same building as the terminal. We stayed there the night before our cruise and it was very convenient. I'm sure that you would be able to store your luggage with bell services until your room is ready.

I stayed at the Blue Horizon and loved it. They had a room for me when I got off Radiance - and it was BEAUTIFUL with an amazing balcony view of the harbor.

Staying at the airport definitely worked for your situation. And it sure looks nice there!

I'm not sure how long the OP is staying, so if it's more than one night being at the airport isn't all that convenient for sightseeing.

Wife and I and two other couples stayed at the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver after our Celebrity cruise over the Fourth of July week 2016. We all were able to get into our rooms immediately following our cruise. My sister and her husband took them up on an upgrade to a Bayside view for an additional $20.00/night and I wish we had also. We and the other couples room looked out at a wall. It is possible to walk from the ship along the shoreline walk but it is a bit of a distance. And a very easy walk to Stanley Park.

We stayed at the Pan Pacific pre cruise and our room wasn't ready until 4pm. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency post cruise and we were able to get in our room at 9am. Can't promise you will have the same experience :)

I was looking at the Hyatt Regency but they don't have a shuttle to/from port. How do you get to/from port? Do you just walk and schlep your luggage with you?

I also looked at the Pan Pacific as well, like others have mentioned and it's a gorgeous hotel. I'd love to stay there. But $800 a night or even $450 at the cheapest is a bit much for me. :(

Indeed. For one night, it's a great solution but for more than one night, it doesn't work that well. Maybe the OP will specify.

The plan is just for one night post cruise, but I'm expecting to at least spend the afternoon sightseeing and exploring downtown Vancouver after getting off the ship. In my head, I'm planning on disembarkation, dropping off luggage at a nearby hotel...probably the same one we stay at the night before cruise, and walk around downtown Vancouver, Chinatown, etc. Then, the next day, we'll hop a taxi to the airport after checking out.

@Ravenne: If you share your cruise or preferred hotel dates.... we can make better hotel recommendations with availability.

When I was in Vancouver for a wedding last Labour Day we stayed at Carmana Plaza. It's a mixed use condo/hotel that is a block off of Robson in about the same area as the Hyatt Regency you're looking at.

Would agree with the 10-15 minute walk assessment. Maybe add 5 minutes because you've got luggage. It's a nice walk though.

I knew I forgot a place. We love Sutton Place as well as le grande residence at Sutton Place. Unlikely to get a good rate during the summer but it's worth a try.

Downtown Vancouver is small and taxis are very good and reasonable (especially, sorry Canadians, with the exchange rate right now).

Then what we did would work for you. We disembarked, gave CDS our bags right there in the cruise terminal, spent the day exploring Vancouver with a transit pass (we purchased them at London Drugs before embarking) and then ate dinner in Gastown before taking the train to the airport and checking into the Fairmont. They brought our luggage right up to our room. We got a good pre-paid rate through Trip Advisor. Cheaper than most everything I was finding downtown. Pre-cruise we stayed at Blue Horizon and I would have stayed there again, but I didn't want to schlep luggage over there then schlep it back to the airport again. We paid more with what we did, but it was so worth it just to hand our bags right over at the cruise terminal.
