Places to propose in NYC

Thinking of proposing to my girlfriend on our trip to New York in April and am hoping people here can give me some ideas of places to do it (having never been to New York before).

Also, any recommended restaurants for a romantic meal with good food? Will I need to book this before we go, or will I be OK to do it once we get there.

We're going for 5 days from 12th April, staying in the Hotel Metro near the Empire State Building (anyone been here, or know anything about it?)

What about at the top of the Empire State building..corny but traditional, or take a carriage ride in Central Park and propose en route. Remember to take a bottle of bubbly to celebrate - providing she says yes! Good luck.

Gill, it's funny you should mention the carriage ride in Central Park. I've just returned from NY and witnessed a proposal in a carriage in Central Park.

I would definitely recommend a helicopter ride but not ideal for proposing as you'd have to yell to be heard. I would also recommend a walk over Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan. You get great views of the Manhattan skyline.

I can't help with the hotel but there are many reviews on Trip Advisor.

..... another vote for the carriage ride in Central Park - or actually I think I'd prefer walking in Central Park, and picking a spot where you are entirely alone.....on a sunny day!

The Empire State Building is usually very crowded at the top so you won't be alone but if you choose this, go when it is dark and lit up.
