Hi, I am a man so I will eat just about anything. All I can say is how bad the food is in Disney Resturants. The atmosphere at the Sci-Fi diner was awesome, the food, yuck. Ate at Japan, my kids love the Japanese place near our house, but at Disney, yucky. Now the California Grill was very good.
We used the dinner plan, which I highly reccomend for the breakfasts and lunch snacks, but for dinner, I don't mean to be so picky, but we had a hardtime finding a resturant in any of the theme parks that was really worth eating at.
Can anyone make any reccomendations, again, this is for someone on the meal plan.
Thank you. :rolleyes1

Ok we aren't on the DP and these aren't in the MK but they are at the MK resorts so its just a monorail/boat ride away...Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary is our favorite..We love it and that is the only character meal we do anymore. Also the one at the Wilderness Lodge (not Artist Pointe but the other one, can't think of the name..whispering canyon maybe??) used to have (its' been a few years since we were there) a really good family style barbeque meal (beef, chicken, beans, etc..) We also like Crystal Palace in MK (although it does get mixed reviews).. Rainforest in AK is pretty good . My DH loves Fultons crabhouse at DTD although it is pretty pricey (in 97 it was $85 just for him!!). At Epcot we just snack "around the world" so I don't have any recommendations there.

Good Luck!!! :teeth:

I'm not sure about the Meal Plan, but I enjoyed the Liberty Tree Tavern. (This is a character meal though, so I'm not sure if it'll be available via the meal plan)

I personally did not like the California Grill. The view was awesome, but the food was not my kind of thing. I'm a "meat & potato" kind of guy.

If you get a chance to do the Hoop De Do Review, I'd highly recommend it. (Again, probably not available on the Meal Plan, but fun non-the-less)

Hoop De doo is awesome and it is on the dining plan, however its 2 table service coupons worth rather than one. hth! (we do hoop de do every single trip. )

I agree with you the Sci-Fi does not have the best food, but these are the places we enjoy.

O'hana at the Poly- they have terrific food, it is brought out like a feast & takes 1 dining credit.

Crystal Palace for Breakfast-it is a character meal, but it is delicious! it also takes 1 credit

Kona-at the Poly has really good food as well & would be 1 credit

I personally have not tryed LeCellier, but tons of people on here love it, and it takes 1 credit.

I like the atmosphere at San Angel in Mexico, my husband loves the food though. It is also 1 credit.

I have heard wonderful things about Brown Derby in MGM, but it takes 2 credits.

Personally, I think Epcot & the resorts have some of the best food.

It grieves me, to some extent, when I hear of the bad choices folks have made, and the consequent dissatisfaction they experienced. There are so many stellar dining options at WDW. That's one of the great advantages of using the DIS Boards to learn what's great before you visit.

I agree with bcsmom that the best food can be found at the full-service restaurants in Epcot and at the resorts. The best-of-the-best is Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge, but Chefs de France in Epcot, Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge, California Grill at the Contemporary, Flying Fish at the BoardWalk, and Citricos and Narcoossee at the Grand Floridian have always provided us incredible meals.

I'll second your comments about California Grill. It was far and away the best meal we had at Disney and well worth the 2 dining credits.

Although it can't compete with the CG, the Crystal Palace isn't bad. I'm not typically fan of buffets, but there was a wide variety of dishes, and the best part is that if you choose something you don't like, you can set it aside and try something else. :thumbsup2 The lunch we had at CRT was fairly good, but if I remember correctly it's gone up to 2 credits on the dining plan, and unless you're going for the princesses, it's not worth that.

I'm interested in seeing other responses to your question. As much as I love Disney, I'd never go there for the food! We were disappointed in the Moroccan restaurant in WS, which I had heard great things about, and weren't too wild about Hollywood & Vine either.

I've heard that the quality of the restaurants is better in the resorts than in the parks, and my limited experience suggests that's accurate. On our next trip, we'll probably venture into a few more resorts.

Has anyone tried the Todd English's Blue Zoo??? We really love sea food but can't decide on which restaurant to go to. We definitely can't afford to try all three. So I would like to hear anyone's thoughts on this place!!!
THANKS!
:confused3

I also loved LTT. The food was awesome and it was only one credit on the DP. (At least in Oct is was).

Also, I know there are mixed reviews, but my son and I love the 50's Prime Time Cafe at MGM. The atmosphere is great and I love the food. I highly recommend it.

I'm sorry that you did not enjoy the food in Disney. We loved CM as well as CG. O'hana and COncourse steak House were also among my family's favorites. I think that we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurants, and that was part of the reason that we left with an overall positive feeling.

You haven't really said where else you've eaten??? If California Grill was your favorite, I really don't think you'll like Liberty Tree Tavern. It's Stouffer's Stuffing (sponsored by Stouffers), mashed potatoes, gravy, mac and cheese and 3 meats, two of which we thought were on the dry side. The dessert and salad were good. Depends on what you're looking for, but it's not the kind of food California Grill serves.

Our favorites are Grand Floridian Cafe, Artist Point and Le Cellier.

Although we didn't care for these at all, you sound like the type that might enjoy Jiko or Brown Derby and from reviews, you also might enjoy Blue Zoo or Shula's. If you want to do a character meal with your kids, I think the best choice food wise is 1900 Park Fair at the Grand Floridian for food. Atmosphere, you can't beat Chef Mickey. We like the food there too, but I don't know if you will.

Our favorites:
Crystal Palace
San Angel
Citricos
...and daughter loves Sonny Eclipse at Starlight LOL

When we went in 2004 we were disappointed in the CRT for dinner, I didn't feel that the food was very good for the price. My DS (16) loved the Rainforest Cafe in AK because they had superb crab cakes. We also really liked Le Cellier in Canada/Epcot. We have always liked Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue and go back every year.

These are our always do's, for us: Yachtsman Steakhouse, Beaches and Cream, Spoodles, Trails End breakfast, Kona Cafe, Rose and Crown (EPCOT)

i loved 50's prime time. had some great meals there, and its fun!!!

i am tempted to go back there again but have been curious about sci fi drive in....but i have seen bad reviews on here, and in the unofficial guide, so i think maybe 50's is where we will eat...again! (and dh had better not leave 1 piece of broccoli on his plate this time. LOL )

50's is a must do for me and DS12 everytime. Sometimes twice.

I haven't had really good experience at SciFi. We went in 2001, the food wasn't that great and niether was the service. We went back in 2005 as we were on the dining plan. Again, the food wasn't that good or the service. It will probably be another five years before I'll try it again, if I do. But that's just my opinion.
