Placeholder question

Hi! I have a place holder from a cruise last summer, and I connected it to the TA I’ve used in the past. Unfortunately, I no longer want to give my business to that company - but wondered if I can switch the place holder to a new TA? Or just use it myself? Or do I need to use the TA it’s currently assigned to?

I don’t know. Have you called the TA to find out? Also, if you find a good TA that offers onboard credit, please let us know!

You’ll have to ask the TA to release it back to DCL. At that point you cannot transfer it to another TA. It’s possible they could refuse or may charge a fee. Do you have a cruise date attached? If so just know the TA did that work (making the booking) and you are now telling them they won’t be paid.

Are we allowed to recommend TA's? I really love mine and she offers onboard credit.

No cruise has been booked - so no work has been done.

I've had to do this twice. When I've bought more DVC points and needed to use them before they expired.
It's really simple. As I stated earlier the travel company emails a letter to Disney stating that they are releasing the placeholder back to me. I then booked my own cruise.

If I understand it correctly, when you want to use a placeholder, you have to call in and it can't be booked online? If so, then I'll probably put my TA on my placeholder since I don't feel like parking on the phone to book myself. Do they just need an e-mail address and name for the TA? I really want to get a placeholder in a few weeks in anticipation of using it for a longer cruise in 2024 or 2025 and since that's more complex, I'm happy for my TA to do most of my hotel and cruise and other bookings for me for that trip.

Correct, you can't book a placeholder online. Either you call DCL and book it that way, or you can assign the placeholder to a TA and they can book for you. If you used a TA to book the cruise you are on when you book the placeholder, the form will ask you if you want to use the same TA. If yes, then that's easy, and the placeholder should go right to them (I always follow up after the cruise to be sure). If you want to do a different TA, or if a TA didn't book the cruise you are on (and therefore DCL doesn't have their information linked to you), I'm not entirely sure how that works (I've always had an established TA when I booked a placeholder). I imagine either the form or the confirmation email will give you instructions on how to transfer to a TA.

ETA: you only have 30 days from the purchase date of the placeholder to transfer it to a TA.

Unless the TA booked your current cruise, you cannot name a TA on a placeholder. You will have to transfer the placeholder after you return - and as PP says, you only have 30 days from the date onboard when the placeholder was purchased.
