Placeholder question

What if I book a placeholder cruise and the decide NOT to book a 2019 cruise? Do I lose the $250 deposit or is it refundable? TIA!

Yeah you just cancel the placeholder and they refund the deposit (or at least this is what I was told).

You have 24 months from the date you book the placeholder to use it so for example if you booked one today you would only have til the 24th August 2019 to embark on another rather than all of 2019. The departure date has to be within the 24 month time period.

You can cancel a placeholder at any time and get the $250 refunded. Even if you move it to an actual cruise date you can cancel for full refund up until the PIF date for that cruise. My understanding is that if you somehow forget about the placeholder and don't schedule it or cancel it, DCL will automatically cancel a placeholder and refund the $250 after 24 months.

I just canceled four rooms with a placeholder discount on a trip coming up in December. So Lanejudy is right that its up to PIF date as ours is approaching fast. I canceled because a VGT rate came up prior to our PIF date and we were able to bump up to a verandah for less than our placeholder discounted oceanview room. We did lose the $100 OBC (its a 5N cruise) from Disney but my TA boss kicked in money so we are all good. We even could cancel the placeholder and keep it for another cruise but we only had a month left on our 24 month window so I just had them cancel in full and we got our entire deposit back (the $250 from original placeholder on the ship and the balance of 20% on the actual cruise fare we had to put down when we booked the actual cruise.) SO I would say no worries! Definitely my number one suggestion to clients is to book that placeholder on board!
