Place to view NASA launch in WDW?

Not a launch, but one morning at BLT we heard a LOUD roaring sound outside...we ran out to our balcony (facing MK) and saw the shuttle being carried on the back of a jet right over MK! It was on it's way to California to be retired I think. It was HUGE.

We arrive Feb 8 and there is a Space X launch at 6pm that night. We have 515 Calif Grill ressies,so barring a scrub is it safe to assume we can go out on the deck and get a pretty good view?
If its cloudy will we see nothing or might still see a trail? Would binocs help at all?

It's the opposite direction from MK.

A friend of mine saw the John Glenn shuttle launch on the Boardwalk standing in front of the green area next to ESPN (back to the water). So we were there when another launch was scheduled, we stood there for awhile and a waiter from ESPN came out and told the crowd it was scrubbed. We had a room at Boardwalk facing the same direction so the next day we tried to watch it from the room but it was too cloudy. We saw it on TV so we knew it went off.

I saw it one time from our room at OKW, we were facing the golf course, I could see the Cirque tent in the distance. It was early morning, around sunrise. I woke up in time and went out on the balcony and saw it. I was surprised how fast it was.

ok so sadly our CGrill ressie is for Monday. But we will be in Orlando, staying at Universal-- so where are some suggested locations around Dis or Univ to get a good view of the launch, assuming it goes?

Yes, you should have a great view from up there.

I've seen launches from the Studios, Saratoga Springs (on the banks of the lake) and, one night, heard a shuttle landing with it's double boom from breaking the sound barrier.

I hope to see Sunday's launch from up here in Savannah.

A great place to watch daytime launches is Jetty Park Beach across from Port Canaveral and it's also a great beach.

A few years back, at the very end of the shuttle program, we were on a boat, going from DTD back to POR, and as we approached the dock at POR our captain announced that the shuttle launch had been delayed some, and it should be going off in just a few minutes. He then told us that if we headed up onto the bridge that goes from the main building over to Ole' Man Island, we should be able to see the launch from there.

Sure enough, he was right, a few minutes later we saw one of the last shuttle launches, and were fortunate enough to get pictures of it. You are watching from pretty far away, but it was close enough to be obvious what we were looking at.

ok so it is tomorrow. So what is the highest point the public can access with an eastern view in the Orlando area? Thought about driving east to the coast for the launch but read itll take hours to get back.

There is a big launch of the Orion spacecraft on Thursday morning, 7am. Is there anywhere near MK where we can see it? Please don't say a live stream. ;)
I was at All Star Movies during a midnight launch. A crowd gathered in front of the resort to watch. We had to wait for it to clear the trees, but seeing that fireball go up and hearing the crowd cheer is one of my best memories of all time.
