Place to Stay on Drive back to Michigan

We have to drive this time (boo) and will be leaving the area and heading back to Michigan. Would probably not want to drive more then 11 hours that first day..has anyone driven this route home and where do you usually stop for the night?

We are taking I75 home verus I77/I95 way going down (staying in Brunswick GA)

We just did this. I would recommend stopping in Chatanooga, as there is nothing between there and Knoxville on I-75. We found that out the hard way.....

We like to stop at the Country Inns & Suites in Dalton,GA. Very clean and comfy. Good breakfast in the a.m.

I dont think Dalton GA would be far enough? We only want maybe 9 or 10 hours the next day so figure we have to try to get in 10 or 11 hours the first day..I was thinking of trying for Knoxville which is approx. 11 hours..Chattanooga shows 9 1/2 hours..I do want to stay away from some of the very small towns in between that may only have 1 hotel like someone mentioned!
