Place to stay in St. Pete/Tampa after WDW?

After WDW this June, we plan to go to the beach - somewhere around St. Pete/Tampa. We would REALLY like to stay in a hotel on the beach, or within walking distance, so that the kids and I can go back to the room while DH roasts all day in the water. (I'm not much of a fan of the ocean.) Does anyone know of a safe, clean, fairly inexpensive hotel that is on or near the beach on the Gulf side? It doesn't have to be in St. Pete, we will have a car. Thanks for any info. Sorry if this is posted on the wrong forum, I don't know where to put it.

Hi! We have stayed at the Bilmar in Treasure Island, it is on the beach, but has two pools, they have efficiencies, two pools, hot tub, in walking distance of shops and restaurants, easy to get to Tampa or St Petre's from there. We really enjoyed it. May stay there again this year if we can get good rates. We used a Roomsaver coupon and they still have them. Have a great time. We leave six weeks form today and i can hardly wait.
