Pixie dust for DS appreciated . . .

Phew. Its been a night here at our house. I am still a little shaky actually.

Tonight, while my son was taking his shower, he slipped and hit his mouth on the side of the tub. He hit so hard his teeth cut right through is lip - a nice 1/2 inch gash. He screams, I come running and find screaming kid and lots of blood. My DH had been dealing with a 'fish transfer' - we were moving fish from one fish tank to another. So as soon as the fish was tossed in the tank, he came running as well. Thank God my mom lives with us - she was able to take over for our DD, who had got out of the shower only 5 min before and was very freaked out by the blood.

We got DS dried off - as he was wet from the shower, dressed and in the truck in about 5 min flat. DS was great, especially for only being 3, he listened and held pressure on the cut. I rode in the back next to kept him clam, and his being calm helped keep me calm - so we kept each other calm.

We went to a local first care clinic and they were wonderful. DH called while we were in route. They had DS in back in less than 1 min after we arrive. I filled out paperwork but it only took 2 min and then the lady took me in back also.

We got lucky with his cut - bad as it was, they were able to use surgical glue to seal it up - no stitches! YEA! The inside of his lip is still cut up, but they left that open as it heals very quickly and is more likely to get infected if sealed. We have to wake him up tonight every few hours, just to be safe, as he did hit is head so hard. But the only injury they saw was his lip. We have to watch what he eats the next several days - its going to break his heart, but no ketchup... nothing salty, avoid things that are acidic.

Anyway, I needed to vent some about it.
And say I LOVE surgical glue! And our clinic had us in and done in 30 min. No kidding - 30 min to check him out and get him glued up. We would still be waiting if we had taken him to the ER.

Time for chocolate.

Some docs and nurses really know what they're doing. Hope your DS gets well soon. I guess the doc means that he can eat all the chocolate ice cream he wants. :thumbsup2 Pixie dust coming his way....pixiedust:

I am glad things were not as bad as the seemed at first and I hope DS is feeling well soon

Poor little guy! I hope he heals quickly.

I used to use super glue for cuts when I was a hairdresser. Can't exactly cut someones hair while your finger is bleeding. LOL!

oh my gosh that's so scary!! hugs for the little guy, and the rest of your family!!

Hugs. That's awesome they got you in right away. I hope he feels better soon.

I hope your son heals quickly, and that you have a very calm, uneventful day today.

Thanks for all the good wishes. :goodvibes

DS ended up in our bed last night ... he kept waking up with nightmares. But once with us, he slept the night through. Of course DH and I had a much harder time of it!
How is it that such a small person can take up more than half a Cali. King size bed??? :lmao:
DD is the same way ... if she ends up in our bed, we end up on a sliver (and we are NOT small people) and may wake up with a black eye as she flails about.

He has quite the fat lip today, has a little trouble drinking/eating and sounds a little funny when talking. But overall seems to have bounced right back. I am constantly amazed at how fast the kids get over trauma or being ill.

OMG! You are a brave woman to stay calm through that. Slipping in the tub and shower is so dangerous and far more common than anyone knows. Even at the age of 9, I constantly tell my daughter, don't play around in the bathroom...

I hope your son recuperates very well and can use this as a really cool story he can tell all his friends someday about how he got that nifty scar.

(((HUGS))) and pixiedust: to your son!!! I hope he feels better soon!!!

Hugs to you and your son. :)

I passed out in the shower in August and hit my head - had to have 5 stitches and my knee went through the side of the tub - broke the tub- and had to have 6 stitches there. I am still paying bills from that little ER trip. :sad2:

It is a scary thing to fall in the shower - I can't imagine what a poor little child felt. Good for you to be able to stay calm.
