Pittsburgh

If you've read any of my threads, you know that we're two adults who are constantly traveling last minute, due to the nature of DH's job. That said, we're visiting Pittsburgh tomorrow & staying in the East Liberty area for the weekend. So far, I have the Hop On - Hop Off bus, incline & Primanti's on our list. I'm open to any other suggestions. Please keep in mind that I'm physically challenged. I can walk on flat ground for a mile or so, but I can't climb steps.

We had visited a number of years ago and really enjoyed the zoo and I believe there was a botanical garden as well but don’t remember if they would have anything that would be an issue for you. Also the Andy Warhol museum.

We visited and enjoyed the National Aviary and the Carnegie Museum.

We also did a behind the scenes tour of Heinz Field, but there’s quite a bit of walking involved on the circular ramp/walkway structures. Not too strenuous of a walk, but I wanted to mention the ramps to you. We all really enjoyed it, even though I’m a fan of our hometown NFL team

Off the top of my head, other than the things you already have planned (which are must dos IMO): The Phipps Conservatory, Carnegie Museums, The Cathedral of Learning Nationality Rooms, the Aviary and the Zoo. If you like breweries, The Penn Brewery is good.

...if I'm not mistaken, there are still tours at Heinz ketchup too. Also, you MUST get some popcorn down at The Strip, at the Pittsburgh Popcorn Company. If you are into German cuisine, you cannot miss a visit to The Hofbrauhaus in the Southside.

Sandcastles is a water park owned by Kennywood that is also a great time in the summer especially with kids. They are a few miles apart so not something you would do on the same day.

Just reread and saw no kids—Sandcastles may not be for you although they have pools and a lazy River.

The Mono incline is down for service. And keep away from Noah's Ark at Kennywood. Freaky. Get yourself a Holy Moley from Wholey's in the Strip.

We just did a long weekend in Pittsburgh this past April. Things we did:

Breakfast at Pamela's (President Obama dined there once also, before being elected)
Carnegie Science Center - but we have an 11 year old. We spent a huge chunk of a day there, and loved touring the submarine.
We did a drive by of Randy Land (thought the area looked kind of sketchy but was cool to see)
Phipps Conservatory - so admittedly wasn't my husbands favorite place but the flowers are absolutely beautiful.

South of Pittsburgh is Sarris Candy's. OMG, it's soooo good. And they have an ice cream parlor that is amazing too.

The Heinz History Center is a pretty cool place to visit. You can use an elevator there. It’s not too far from a Mexican restaurant we love called Condado Tacos. The Pittsburgh Zoo is great, but very big. It might be more walking than you’d want to do. Pamela’s Diner in the Strip District is good, but touristy. We also love Waffles INCaffeinated.

I’m not sure which direction you’re coming from, but the Flight 93 Memorial is very nicely done and worth a visit.

It's been a few years since I have been for a visit, so not sure how much has changed but a few recommendations:
- the Strip District has all sorts of cool shops/eateries
- Church Brew Works if you like microbreweries; although, the last time I was here it has kind of become mainstream/touristy to the point that I think it has lost a bit of it's edge
- attend a Pirates game, nice stadium and in the past tickets were pretty affordable/easy to come by

The other "tourist trap" type restaurant is Quaker Steak and Lube, but the wings are pretty awesome.

We like all types of cuisine and are always looking for unique experiences. I'll look to see, if we're going to be near The Hofbrauhaus. I'm adding The Strip to my list too. Thanks for the pics.

Thanks for the warnings. I'm going to have to look up Holy Moly. I have no idea what it is.

I read through your thread last night. It sounded like you had a good visit. That's the first time I've seen Randyland mentioned anywhere. I'll look into it.

I'd love to see the memorial. I looked into it previously, but I don't think we're going to be near it. From here, we're driving back to State College.

We would have definitely gone to see the Pirates, but they're not in town.
