I have a friend visiting for just one day, next Saturday. There's so much to do, that I usually get bogged down in what I should show them/do with them.

So, what are your favorite sites, things to do, with visitors?

TIA
Edie

Not from Pittsburg, but about 3 1/2 hrs east. Our friends, who live close to us, took out to Pittsburg to visit family.

We loved the Strip District. I just wish I would have gone there hungrier.

That night for dinner we ate at a place called The Double Wide Grill. We really enjoyed that. The ribs were awesome!!! And an interesting concept of turning a gas station into a restaurant.

In the evening we went to The Meadows Racetrack and Casino. Had a lot of fun playing the slots. I even came out ahead!!!!

We are going back for another visit this summer:thumbsup2!!!

Hope this helps you :)

I had a coworker come into Pittsburgh from St Paul about a year ago (March). He was here for 3 days, so we had 2 evenings to go out. He is a sports fan, so after work I took him over to see PNC Park and Heinz Field. We walked around both, he bought a Pirates hat in the gift shop (he must not know their record ;)) . Then I took him over to Station Square, we rode the incline, walked around the shops and had dinner at Hard Rock. Then I drove him through southside on the way back to the hotel (Marriott City Center). He really enjoyed it and I thought it "showcased" our city (luckily it was a clear day!). The next night we went to a Penguins game (had to scalp tickets!), he was amazed at how old it is. We did look at the Consol Energy Construction, at that time they were just starting to erect steel.

It's been many years since we've lived in Pittsburgh so we're not up to date with the best things to do, but the one thing I'd fit in for sure is to ride the incline. It's unique to Pittsburgh and you get a nice view up there!

The hills in Pittsburgh are amazing to visitors from a flat or flatter area. Even though we used to live in Pittsburgh, we are now easily impressed by marveling over the steep hills and roads everywhere. When our kids were little, they used to act as if they were on a roller coaster when we went to PA to visit family. :rotfl: So, yes, being on top of Mt. Washington (that's where the incline goes, right?) can be quite impressive to visitors! Seeing houses that seem to sprout off of the side of a hill like mushrooms is impressive, too!

Oh---take them somewhere "Pittsburgh" to eat, like Primantis, the O, or any other similar place. There are probably places there now that we've never heard of that are regional and good.

In winter I'd probably take them to lunch at Primanti's, ice skating at PPG Place, maybe visit the John Heinz History Center in the Strip (kind of cool and everything in there is specific to this region), a ride on the incline and views from Mt. Washinton and then dinner and drinks someplace in the Southside.

In nicer weather a sightseeing cruise on the Gateway Clipper and maybe a baseball game at PNC Park or a trip to the zoo.

Hi fellow Pittsburghers...
Saturday at Primanti Bros. in the Strip can be a mad house!! Try one of the suburban locations. Moon Township if they are flying in or out. But definately need to do PBros. Especially how you can't miss them on Food Network or Travel Channel these days.

IMO, the best way to show off our city is it's great neighborhoods. Depending on age of visitor, South Side, Shadyside, or Oakland are great spots to spend an afternoon.

Drive into the city from the Ft Pitt tunnel at night, stunning view! Have drinks at Monterray Bay. Dinner/drinks at Station Square.

Pittsburgh has a beautiful skyline at night. I travel a lot for work and am always a bit taken back when I come through the tunnel at night.

I don't live there but have been to visit. We loved Station Square and went on a few different days. We took a boat tour, enjoyed the shops, road the incline and had some ice cream at the top and ate somewhere along the water. We both enjoyed it a lot more then we expected.

We will be in Pittsburgh next weekend, too. My DS goes to school at Duquesne and we're visiting for his birthday. We've been on the incline already and most of the places people have suggested. I think on this visit, we will go to one of the Carnegie museums. We'll definitely have either lunch or dinner at FatHeads, DH's favorite place for a beer and a burger. Have you been there? DS has picked his birthday dinner and all I know is that it's Japanese.

Since you are all coming here for Pgh advice I can conclude that you also love our sports teams!!???

Could you help our Women’s Full contact football team?

It will really help with many of the expenses we have when it comes to televising the games! Thank you so much!

It only takes 5 seconds and cost nothing!

We ate there on a Saturday. Yes, it was busy, but I don't think that it took more than 10-15 minutes to be seated. This was around lunch time. The line was slightly longer when we left, but I would still have wanted to eat at the original Pirmatis!!

The Incline for sure and take a drive over to Pig Hill.

I agree with the original Primanti Brothers. I live in South Oakland and the Oakland location just doesn't measure up. Of course, I went to college here in the 70's -- back when the strip district wasn't as built up and Primantis was the place to go at 2 AM on the weekend.

Where is Pig Hill? I've only been back here for two years and don't have all of the neighborhoods scoped out, yet.

Is the History Museum worth the trip? (We went to the Carnegie a few weekends ago. My sons still love the dinosaurs even at 28 and 26 y.o.)

I think we'll do "The Strip" at lunchtime. Fat Heads for dinner (one of my favorite places) and then take a trip up to Mount Washington. Hoping for pancakes at Pamelas on Sunday, too!

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Maybe a restaurant on Mt. Washington would be great. I would not suggest Primanti's to everyone if they enjoy lighter foods.;) Oh for anyone having visitors in the future try the Dor-Stop in Dormont (my neighborhood). It was feature on the food network show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives for breakfast. Very small diner place but packed on the weekends. When my DH takes our dog for a walk on the weekends he always come home with stories about out of towners. Wow a tourist destination!

Strip District:thumbsup2

I dont know much about the Burgh but from what I've seen on the Food Network, this place called primanti brothers is probably one of the places I'd like to visit. :thumbsup2
