We are going to the Paul McCartnery concert on 8/19 and are spending the night. Our plan for the next day is go to the Pirates game at 7:00. What do we do during the day? DBF wants to ride the Duquense Incline. I thought about also doing a Sightseeing Cruise on the Gateway Clipper. Any other suggestions or do you think those two things will cover our day?

BTW, no interest in eating one of those sandwiches.

The Heinz History Center is a great museum and the Western PA Sports Hall of Fame is there (as part of it) as well. It's our favorite museum in the 'burgh.

We live about 2 hours from Pittsburgh and go a few times a year (it's the closest Ikea to us). We have done the duck boat tour, cheesy but fun. The incline is fun but won't take long, there is some shopping in that area, an old train depot turned mini shopping mall. We like taking the incline up to the top to have dinner at one of the restaurants with a view of the city, but it looks like both your evenings are already scheduled.

There is the Carnegie Museum in Oakland (Pitt campus, east of downtown). A lot of great architecture on the area as well. The old center field wall of Forbes Field is still there. And there are bricks from the wall embedded in the sidewalk where it was removed. Homeplate is in the floor of the nearby building in the correct orientation to the wall.

You can park on one spot and do all of these things in several hours.

I always recommend the Pittsburgh Zoo as a fun daytime activity. The aquarium there is really new and nice, and I thinkthe whole zoo is just so much fun to visit. (I will mention that I met my DH at the Pittsburgh Zoo, so it is one of my favorite places on earth )

BTW, no interest in eating one of those sandwiches.
I'm a native Pittsburgher, and I can't stand "those sandwiches"! I always order pizza when I go to Primanti's.

I know someone else recommended the Heinz History Center, but I was less than impressed on my only visit there -- and I'm a museum person, who actually reads the signs!

I haven't been on a Gateway Clipper Cruise in a long time, but I think that is a great idea too.

Science Museum is great, just walking around the strip district is fun!

We live in a suburb of Pittsburgh and are going to the Paul McCartney concert on the 19th :cool1:

I would recommend any of the sites the above posters recommended. The new Rivers Casino is open and it is right next to the science center on the North Shore. I haven't been to the casino, but a lot of people like it. The Science center is fun too.

Maybe we will pass each other at the concert :goodvibes

I would go to the Strip District, and go hungery!!! As a matter of fact, I was just there last weekend!

Just went to the zoo yesterday and it was so wonderful! Pittsburgh has one of the nicest zoos in the country. There's also the National Aviary there if you just want to spend an hour or two. They have a show that definitely rivals the one at Animal Kingdom.

Oh, and at Station Square you can also do a Segway tour. I haven't done it so I don't know if it's worth the money, but I definitely want to try it some day. Ducky tour is cheesy but fun.

I've been to the Pittsburgh Zoo several times. It is a great zoo but I don't think we will have enough time to go. (We are LATE risers.lol)

I'm thinking breakfat, incline, gateway clipper, then maybe walk around the strip district and eat. (After the review of ballpark food we should eat before we go.)

I also like the Station Square area.

No Casino, DBF doesn't like to gamble...party poooper!

Mary Poppins, I'm sooooo excited. Saw him for the first time last year and was blown away. He's not performing DBF and I's song again so I'm disappointed in that but still stoked for the show! We are in Row A right off the floor on the side. I can't wait!

i think you should leave pittsburgh thru the tunnel (follow signs for the airport), turn around and go back just to see the view of the city when you come out of the tunnel!!! it's one of my favorite things!!! i know it sounds so silly, but it's amazing! you're just driving thru some hills, it's all green, trees, grass, etc... you go thru the tunnel, and when you come out TAH-DAH!!!! Pittsburgh!!! the bridge, the river, the buildings!! it's so exciting!!!
(simple minds, simple pleasures, i know.)

JoGo, I whole-heartedly agree! It is one of my all-time favorite views of the city.

Another thought for something to do, go to Oakland and visit the nationality rooms at the Cathedral of Learning.

It's only three bucks a person for admission. (But I'm prejudiced, my grandfather helped to build the place!)
