"Piretes of Caribbean" & "Haunted Mansion" too scary for 6 year old?

My daughter rode them both at age 4 with no problems..it depends on how easily your child scares

My kids are not easily scared and rode both HM and POTC as toddlers and on to present age. Whenever I would notice any apprehension, I'd whisper in their ears, "Remember, it's just 'Mickey Magic' and Mickey won't do anything to hurt you. It's all pretend," and they were fine.

We went last year with my cousin and her son, age 4, and he was much more timid than my kids were at that age, but he still rode both Pirates and HM. Pirates scared him a little at first, but he was OK by the end, and I don't think HM bothered him at all.

We just got back. Apparently, my 4 and 6 1/2 year old HATE the dark...they hated POTC and HM. I guess at least they tried them. How I got them to go on SM is a mystery to me. :rotfl: which, by the way, they both hated. LOL

I got all 4 kids on POTC on our first trip. Ages 8,4, 2 and 9months. Everyone loved it. We quietly talked to the kids about what was happening and just relaxed with it. Our last trip we finally were all tall enough for SM and we made it a one time ride on it for the younger.

I took my daughter on at 2 and then again at 3 and she will be going again at 5 in a month just keep telling them they are not real and make it fun...she loved them both :yay:

My youngest loved them both at 5 and our friends' kids were younger when they went on them. If you never let a child try then you will never know if they can do it or not.

When we went back in October with a group of friends all the little ones went on Expedition Everest. The youngest ones were 5 and 6 and this was their first trip and first time on it. My youngest was 8 and has been loving EE with no fear. Anyway, the other moms and I were waiting for them to come off the ride and we saw a child that appeared to be much older than ours come off the ride in tears. The other moms started worrying but found out that in the end their worries were for nothing. The 5 and 6 year olds loved it and had huge smiles in their pictures.

You just never know how a child will react.

My 4 year old is afraid of the dark and already thinks there are ghosts so we are NOT doing HM. *I* think the beginning is creepy when it's dark and you're crammed in that little room.

You know your son better than anyone else, so I would just go with your gut. That being said, both of my girls were traumatized at Haunted Mansion and Snow White. And we even by-passed the stretching room. :rotfl:. Seriously, we were done with dark rides after those two! But they do both scare easily. I can remember going at five and POTC being my favorite ride. I would let him try it, and if he doesn't like it just cuddle him and it'll be over in no time.

You could watch the videos with the kids on Youtube. DD has gone on both rides since she was 9 months so shes never been afraid. She actually watches the youtube videos.

My almost-5 year old did not like HM. The worst part, IMO, is where they talk about there being "no windows and no doors". That really put the zap on him. He understood that the rides are illusions and not real, but for some reason the HM was just not OK. POC, he liked, but didn't love. The two year old loved both rides. After HM he said it was 'POOKY! with a big grin on his face.:)

I agree that it really just depends on the child. My girls ages 2 and 3 at the time and 3 and 4 at the time loved both while there was a little boy much older then them crying because he was scared....I would atleast try one and see. Im pretty sure it wouldnt scar him for life. ;)

When my Ds was younger he did not like it so my uncle gave him a glow in the dark braclett. He told him it was a bravery braclet and would keep him safe as it truns out HM and POC were his favorite rides the entire trip. Now many years latter my DS carreys them and hands them out when we are waiting if it looks like a little one is scarred . He loves the ride and wants other to give it a chance.

My girls were 3 and 5 the first time they rode both...the both LOVED haunted mansion and have ridden several times since then, however, my youngest (now 5) was scared by Pirates and still won't go on it...we'll try again this year...I dunno...maybe it's dark boat rides??? She was terrified by Maelstrom, lol!!! But she LOVES its a small world of course! :goodvibes

my 4 and 5 year old were fine on these rides. But we never hyped it up that they would be scary....heck, our 7 month old loved them too...we just walked on like nothing was going on and they loved them so much we did HM multiple times

I rode POTC when I was 3 (pre-Jack Sparrow version) and was fine, but I didn't do Haunted Mansion. Like someone said before, try POTCfrist, and if he's scared, don't do HM.

Hard to tell. My older dd, the meeker of the two has done both since age three and loved them.

My younger dd, who is much feistier, loves pirates and hates HM because of the dark stretching room. Darkness is really an issue for her. However, she wants to try it again this next trip if I " hold her tight and buy her a lollipop as big as her head". She's a good negotiator!
