Do they ever release movies early on the ships? Pirates is coming out July 9, but my cruise ends on July 5. I would be pretty neat for the kids to see the movies then explore Bluebeards/Blackbeards? Castle etc. May make them more interested in the history of the islands, instead of whining about wanting to go swimming!

I don't know for sure, but from my recent experience I would say no. The Jungle Book 2 opened in theatres Feb 14. I was on the Magic 2/8 - 2/15 and they did not premiere the movie until the next week, the 2/15 sailing.

I would agree with Kelli, I have been on the ship for a "PremEAR" at sea, (Tuck), but it wasn't shown until the release date if I remember right.

A couple of years ago, we saw Remember The Titans at sea. I'm pretty sure it was shown before it was released on land. At least that's what they claimed. It was shown on the Tuesday of a 7-nighter.

You know, now that you mention that, it WAS shown early because they showed it a number of times. But that was on one sailing, I am not sure they can show it on a different sailing before the premiere date.

Señor & Cath ...

When I started reading this thread I though I remembered something about an early Premear at Sea.

When I saw the name of the movie I was pretty certain that was it ... it was on an Oct. 2000 cruise and they made a big thing of the fact that we would see it a couple days before the folks on land got to see it.

So I think you're right ... it was early in the 7 day cruise that they premeared Remember the Titans ... at midnight if I recall. It would have premeired on land that Thursday or Friday.

Some movies are not even finished editing far enough in advance to get an "at sea" preview now for something due in theatres in July.

nyloc,

When we saw Titans, it was on a 7-day Eastern, the first week of October, 2000 (the cruise actually left on Sept. 30). The ship was re-routed due to a hurricane, and we never got to St. Maarten, stopping instead at Key West on Sunday. I don't know if this is the cruise you're thinking of or not.

Anyway, the movie was presented as a "Premiere at Sea," and we were told by whomever it was who intro'd the movie that we would see it before people on land would be able to. It wasn't shown at midnight, though, it was shown in the Walt Disney Theatre at 6:00 & 8:30pm, the regular evening showtimes. This would have been Oct. 3, 2000 (I just pulled out the Navigator to check). I don't know if we actually did see it before anyone on land was able to, although I tend to doubt it, now that I think about it. The Internet Movie Database lists Sept. 29 as its release date, which would have been the Friday before our cruise departed. So while we may have seen it at sea before alot of people saw it on land, I guess it's questionable as to whether it was actually shown on the ship before it premiered in theaters.

We saw the premiere at sea of Treasure Planet on the 11/23 Thanksgiving cruise on the Magic. I think it was a day before it opened Thanksgiving day on land.

As an avid reader of this board, I have never seen anyone mention that a movie started before it's actual release date. I saw Monsters, Inc. on its premiere day on the Wonder.

Mostly the premieres are on the Wonder on the actual Friday release date. The Magic shows them the next Tuesday or Wednesday. In the case of some Wednesday openings, such as Treasure Planet and Toy Story II, they show on the Magic on the Wednesday opening day.
