I just read about a direct to video film baed on PotC. Has anyone got any details?

No. But I saw the opening of Pirates at DL on Walt Disney Presents on the Disney Channel [on satilite] a little over 5 days ago?? It was pretty cool!! But not the same story as Pirates at WDW! the one at WDW seems to have lost a few scenes and alot of the Audio story line??

Are the 2 that different??

The story of a PoC movie has been simmering in the rumor pots for a while now. I personally think it sounds like a great premise for a movie. The only down side would be that if it is an exact following of the ride, we would know the outcome (oh well). I do noit think that anything has been confermend yet, though.

The script for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ is currently in development and is one of the three “economy production lines” Disney is trying to get going. Whether this movie is direct-to-video or theatrical will depend on the screenplay and the success of ‘Country Bear Jamboree’. The Company feels that movies based on popular attractions can be marketed like sequels since most of the country is already aware of ‘Pirates’ or ‘Haunted Mansion’ or ‘Space Mountain’ – in other words, half the job of selling these films has already been done.

This is part of Disney’s effort the essentially re-create the old B-movie business. Make inexpensive films using storylines, characters, plots and situations already familiar to the audience. The concept of doing films based on Disney attractions has been around for decades and many people would argue that Steven Speilberg has been the most successful at it (watch ‘Goonies’ if you really want to see a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie).

are they still thinking about a country bear movie? I figured if pooh kicked the country bears out of disneyland they wouldn't go forward with it - I wonder if that is still the plan?

I'm pretty sure the Bear movie is still going forward.

I'm going to go back and check my link. I've seen to gotten logged onto the "bizzaro" Dis site.

* You make a movie and take out the ride.

* You take rides and make movies out of them.

I'd swear this use to be the other way around?

Oh, well maybe this will be a saving grace for the parks. When they start to run out of rides to make B movies out of then they might be compelled to actually add more rides.

Maybe, we should all start sending letters to Disney saying we'd sure love to see a movie made about Unicorns and mythical creatures

I feel like a radio talk show caller, I'm a long time reader, first time poster. I like the idea of Disney making movies out of there attractions. Since we all have our own ideas of "storylines" (ie Haunted Mansion), I think Disney coming out with an actual reason for the rides would boost attendance. And since Pirates is generally no more than a 10 minute wait, I think it would be a great way to draw more people in. For those who think that SM, HM, and PoC are well known amongst the population, they're actually not...there are a lot of ppl who have never been to Disney, and if they have, have missed one of the aforementioned (its is possible). I think a movie would do great things. I for one can't wait for the Country Bears movie, my wife and I will be smack dab in the middle of the theatre with our popcorn waiting for Big Al to come out and steal the show. We'll also be the ones refraining from using flash photography until the finale. In closing, how about a Carousel of Progress feature?

The ‘Country Bear Jamboree’ film has been in production for a couple months now. I think they’re just finishing up some location work in Tennessee and that might be the end of principal photography. There will be months of editing, sound and special effects work after that. The bears themselves were created by The Jim Henson Company and are supposed to be incredible (watch the TV series ‘Farscape’ on the SciFi channel for examples of their work).

As far I know, the ‘Bears’ at Disneyland are still scheduled to be killed sometime after Labor Day. The demographics of the guests out here are very different than the guests in Florida and current management fells that even a movie will not make the Jamboree popular again. And of course, empting the building will give the park one more store to sell Pooh merchandise (always a good thing, right?).

The proposed films are not connected to any plans for the theme parks at all. It’s all based on marketing - , the public has already been “pre-sold” on “Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean” and people who have never even been to a park know a little bit about the attraction. Remember the ‘Pirates’ joke in ‘Jurassic Park’? Half the job of movie marketing is simply making people aware the movie exists, and then interested in finding out more.

tink2dw,

I don't think there's realy that much different in the audio portion of the ride. Basically, DL's Pirates of the Caribbean is made to fit in to New Orlean's square whereas WDW's fits into adventureland. I actually prefer the WDW, because I think the building is better and much of the Missing footage is replicated in the queue. West Coast fans will correctly argue that DL's PotC has a more coherent storyline, and more scenes, bbut I just like the flow better at WDW.

Pig Soldier, tried to Personal Message you, but your box was full. So, here goes...

When everything went haywire and the Dinos were breaking out, the old man who founded the park commented, "When Disneyland opended, half the rides failed to work properly." Jeff Goldblum's character responded, "But the Pirates of the Caribbean didn't start eating the guests!"

Euphscott, yes, it was awful. But then again, I can't stand Steve Gutenberg.

wow - thanks for the info
