Here is some detailed information on Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3. In Pirates of the caribbean "Curse of the Black Pearl" It was a Aztec Gods that placed a curse of the men through the gold. In the next movies the curse is set by evil Sirens. For those who are not familiar with Sirens, these are beautiful women that attracted sailors to them through their beauty and voice. After the sailors would find them, they would be destroyed. I assume this will be explained to be the reasons why Davey Jones is the way he is.

You do not see the Sirens in the movie, but like the Aztec Gods, they are refered to in the conversations of Davey Jones.
