When I bought the 7rental/Pirates of Caribbean deal I asked for fullscreen DVD. Went to pickup our copy and told they only came as widescreen. Has anyone seen them fullscreen? Should I just pickup the VHS instead?

I just got off the phone with 2 different DISNEY STORES and both told me it only comes in wide screen, I never thought to look yesterday when I bought mine, i was surprised when I went to watch it last nite, fortunately my dvd player converts to full screen with the push of a button....

Personally I believe widescreen is the only way to watch movies, and TV shows for that matter, as well. You see soooooo much more!

Have to agree with MissJasmine on this one. I almost bought my ds the new Indy Jones set in full screen. He would have had my head. I lost my place in line in order to get the wide-screen version!!!

hmmmm I'll have to watch it both ways, to see the difference....

Eww...fullscreen. There's only one reason to ever buy Fullscreen - if you are watching on a smallish TV (<20") to avoid the letterboxing making the image like a postage stamp. You really lose a lot when they crop to Fullscreen.

I'm with the widescreen fans too. Eventually you'll probably own a widescreen tv and you'll be pleased to have the ws version.

Why on Earth would you want to watch a movie in full screen??? You loose either way. With full screen you loose so much of the movie. If it's pan and scan you get nausus from all that movement. Wide screen is the only way to go. You're seeing what you were meant to see just as if you were watching in the theater.

Well, I would want to watch it in Full Screen since I have an older tv and the screen shows about 4 inches of picture so it is helpful to have Full screen over wide screen in that regard.

Holycow

Tried to buy Santa Clause 2 at WDW last week. Only available in Widescreen DVD or full screen VHS. I would rather have a full screen DVD - wonder if they are made.

Besides having a smaller tv, is there another reason people pefer full screen over wide screen??? Just wondering why some people would be willing to loose almost half the movie.

I esed to be bothered by the letter-box effect of watching a wide-screen DVD on an older TV. I have gotten used to it now and realy appreciate the widescreen picture. Eventually, all TV's manufactured will be widescreen, so with that un mind, I usually buy wide-screen DVD's.

Just bought Pirates of the Caribbean tonight on DVD tonight. We always make sure the DVDs we buy are widescreen.

Yo ho, yo ho...pirate:

You actually lose almost half of the movie with fullscreen versions. In order to make it fit your square screen they cut off the sides of the film. With the widescreen format they put the full, rectangular-shaped film in the center of the screen, keeping the top and bottom black. You get the full image, as it was presented in theaters.

As you can tell, I'm in the widescreen camp. I refuse to buy a movie if it only comes in fullscreen. Even my kids (11 & 8) know to make sure the box says widescreen.
:D

WOW...thanks to everyone in favor of wide screen..

After the kids went to bed last night I popped Pirates in the DVD player, started the movie...paused it at a scene with multiple people in it, then switched back and forth between full and wide screen, I was amazed..I can't believe I've been missing that much every time I watch movies...., never agaain will I rent or buy a full screen movie...

I told my wife I felt so stupid for not knowing that before...

I'm one of those guys that everyone in the office comes to with their computer/electronics type questions,

how did I not know such a thing.....

Thanks again to all for enlightening me...

I was just thinking, there's another situation where Fullscreen is ok, besides when you have a small TV.....when the original movie or show was made for TV. Of course there isn't a widescreen version in that case...so nevermind. I'm just trying to justify why they bother to make Fullscreen DVDs.

I hate it when they don't put the big banner across the top of the case stating the format. I've accidentally rented fullscreen-only DVDs and refused to watch them.
