North Hollywood, Calif., April 26, 2006 - mDisney, a mobile publishing unit of the Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG), today announced it will offer Pirates of the Caribbean Multiplayer, a cross-carrier, real-time multiplayer game for mobile phones. The game, one of the first action adventure mobile multiplayer games, is based on the popular movie franchise, and is slated to launch this summer, in conjunction with the theatrical release of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest worldwide on July 7, 2006.

The game will be open for beta testing in mid-April at www.piratesmobilemultiplayer.com. It will permit up to 16 players to engage in individual game sessions. Players will be able to chat with other players make friends, and form guilds of hundreds of players on the game's server, which can accommodate tens of thousands of simultaneous players.

Doesnt look like you have to be an adult, but this looks like it is for mobile phones only, not the multiplayer game for the computer schedules to be released in 2007. I signed up for updates for that game and got no notification of this, so I think they are two different things. I would imagine you do have to have a cell/mobile phone to be a tester for this particular mobile phone game. I would also imagine your carrier must be one of those listed. Ours is not but we went ahead and signed up anyways. i'm betting anyone with "other" selected as their carrier, goes right to the recycle bin! Oh well, worth trying!

Oh well, it's a new market for Disney, mobile-gaming.
I don't see the appeal though, and when they start charging some abysmal rate for it I'm pretty sure I will go straight back to VMK and my trees.

Yes Carrie, you got it right. This is for the mobile phone game that comes out at the same time as the new movie.

When I saw it, I called my daughter at work, lol. She does PR for games, mostly mobile phone games lately. She said the cell games always come out at the same time as movies they relate to.

The on-line mmpolrpg of Pirates will not come out until 2007 projected. But it is being previewed at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) in LA this month. She is going and I have tried to make her look for it. We will see

I see you caught that too!! this is a mobile phone beta test.....that why I posted the quote.

Playing games on the computer is one thing but I am not playing games on my phone...no way no how.
