Any suggestions on how to maximize this experience? Is a Fast Pass for the same hour you do it the best way to ride Pirates as a Pirate?

Give yourself at least an hour for Pirates League. Ride Pirates with FP soon after. You should also check out the Pirates Adventure. They give you a treasure map and you follow a different one for each adventure - this could take a couple hours if you want.

Attend the pirate tutorial with Jack Sparrow. Put your dressed-up, excited kid near the front, and there is a good chance that your young pirate with get picked to go on stage.
