Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island

I'd be really interested in hearing what anyone who has been has to say about it too... :)

There are some reviews and photos over on mouseplanet. Not sure if it would be tacky or inappropriate to post the link here. :confused3

We went the morning it opened. The island was really nice, but as expected there were tons of people piling in, so I think it will be much better when you can run/walk through the caves without being packed in a slow-moving line.

Other than that, the CM's entertaining us in the line were great. The caves were great, with lots of things to look at / interact with that surprised us and made us laugh. here were great special effects when we reached for a treasure, tried to open Davy Jones' locker, etc. The bone cage made for a great photo-op. The bridges, Tom's treehouse, sunken treasure and pirate ship were fun, too.

I'm glad they updated this area of the park, since it was not getting lots of visitors before. We were told that the Fort was going to be rebuilt/repaired, but there was nothing for us to do there at the time.

The pirate entertainers are funny and really spice up this area of the park.

We will be there in July and can't wait. Are there any plans to update WDW? They need to update the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse to Tarzan DESPERATELY.

It just a walk upstairs to walk back down. Nothing fun or interactive for the kids.

At least DL got a Nemo sub ride. They destroyed WDW and put a Pooh (:scared1: ) play area.

I would Gladly trade you Tarzans tree house for the Swiss Family Tree house :) but you can keep the pooh play area

We are going to DL in July. Can't wait to see the new pirate island and Fantasmic on Rivers of America. We've been to WDW 16 times but only 1 time to DL 15 years ago and the river was drained to build fantasmic, so we didn't get to do Tom's island.

You wont be let down by Fantasmic at Disneyland.

We've seen it 5-6 times at WDW and only twice at DLR (it doesn't run in the slower season when we usually visit), but we LOVE the one at DLR! They are both good, but the story at DL is more compelling for us, plus the location on the Rivers of America and the use of the real boats are better (IMO) than the stadium at MGM. However, the layout at WDW is much easier for us, with plenty of seating, no trees blocking our view, etc. We paid a premium for reserved seating once at DLR and did not regret it one bit (plus the desserts were yummy).

Have a great time!

We were there the second day it opened. No line ups or crowds. The kids really enjoyed it. DH and I thought it was alright. I think I was expecting a little bit more. The caves were neat. Favourite part was meeting Jack Sparrow at the end and having our photo taken with him. Photopass is available and photo comes with Pirates of the Carribean border.

Great information, PrincessIM. :thumbsup2

We will be there in one week. I have a couple of questions:

What time of day did you visit (& was it during the week)?

About how long should we plan for this (i'm mapping out our days)?

Tom Sawyer's island was closed last time we were there, so i think my 8 y/o son would love running around the island, doing the pirate stuff, & of course getting a pic with Capt. Jack. pirate:

(his 50 y/o dad would love it too. ;) )

thanks. :yay:

OOOh, they are doing pics with Jack??? I am soooo there!!! Going in August, cannot wait!!!!! pirate:

Ok, I have to ask. What's wrong with Tarzan's treehouse?

Are there ANY seats for Fantasmic? I remember sitting forever on cobblestones. Very uncomfortable. I can't see ds6 sitting there patiently. Did somebody mention desserts?

We were there on Saturday around 10:00 (I think). We probably spent about 1/2 hour to 45 mins. DD 6 thought Jack Sparrow was a blast. She had him sign her "Princess" Autograph Book which he thought was funny and then balanced her book on her head and stuck her pen in her hair. We might have missed a few things as we were busy running after DS 2 who was having lots of fun.

The Treehouse has some structural problems and was closed suddenly back in April. Apparently it will re-open sometime soon.

See this link for info on reserved seating (with desserts) for Fantasmic:

www.wdwinfo.com/disneyland-california/disneyland-fantasmic.htm

Note that the option for balcony seats is currently not offered and may be permanently not offered.

Some people manage to get seats over in the Riverbelle Terrace area by arriving really, really, really, really early. They are free, but since it is a restaurant you will need to buy some food.
