Hi - I've never been any good at the Pirates Game and I wondered if anyone could give me some advice. I can win ocassionally on "Ship Battle" (though I'm usually one of the first one sunk on a team) and almost never on "Capture the Flag". The old game was much easier for me, but this new one completely has me beaten. Any advice would be appreciated; it'd be nice to not always be sunk!

Practice Practice Practice. I felt this way when they switched it, and couldn't win a single game, but now I get about 100 credits + 100 credits for winning, and it really starts adding up.

You need to PRACTICE and thats the only way you can get good.Alot of ppl get on the highscore list but thats only because they practice and if you want to be like them you need to practice to ;-]

The best tip is to practice. Practicing with friends and AI is the best way. Here are some other tips:
1. Try to get at a position where you can hit them but they can't hit you.
2. Get gold because it actually has a good use. It sinks the opponent even if only one cannon hits them and they have full health.
3. Don't be a sitting duck or Kraken will get you.
4. Don't go for the opposite team right when the game starts. This, I need to work on.
5. If you are dealing with a flag sitter in capture, just shoot them and when they die, shoot them again and they will explode so you can get the flag.
6. Keep stocking up on health and cannons. Don't just go face to face with someone when you have like one health and one cannon. I go for health and cannons when I lose one, especially health.
7. If you get stuck on an island, click on yourself or behind you or next to you. If none of those work, just keep trying.
8. The best ship for capture is the black pearl because of its speed, but not for battle because it has low health and doesn't shoot many cannons at a time. The wicked winch isn't any tougher, but it still shoots many cannons at a time. You can take out an opponent in one shot. This is my favorite ship. I use it all the time in battle. The flying dutchman doesn't shoot as many cannons, but it still shoots more than the black pearl and is the toughest ship. These are both good for battle. However, not for capture except for guarding because they are much slower. If you are racing against someone else to get the flag to your base, surely you'll lose unless you are much closer.
That's all I can think of right now, but I'll think of some more. pirate:

I usually hit and run lol
(Spread Shots)
Always move while shooting. Occasionally people will sit there and shoot you, only to be hit by a moving ship that is shooting or kraken.
That is my most used technique. Hit and run, do not stray to close into the enemy territory unless the enemy is far away, (far enough that when they shoot at you, they will drop into the water) Thats all I got, and including Frontier's tips I guess thats all.

Also, I try and remember spots on certain islands that you can shoot THROUGH. This is a major advantage in the game which relates to Frontier's 1st rule.

P.S. I always get hit by the AI's easily lol. But a bit of practice and Im now able to beat them in less than about 1 minute ;)

I will be upgrading this list:
Try not to attempt running into a 6-8 player battle, this is where the Lag Monster comes in (I usually play 4 player battles, which is the minimum), if you do want to go into a 6-8 player battle, you may want to be very good at pirates first. Other than that you'll be fine :thumbsup2

The number one thing to remember about Capture the Flag in order to be successful in it is this: It is all about the flag.

This is NOT battle. They are very different games. Yes, if you can sink your opposing team before they touch the flag, you will win.

However, over and over again I see new capture players who come after me when I have the flag. If I am the last afloat on my team they sink me and are shocked when they lose the point. The team with the flag closest to home base wins - NOT last sailor standing.

That is THE thing to remember in Capture the Flag.

I agree with most everything else stated above but I have to comment on one thing.

Find the ship that you are most comfortable using and that makes you the best capture player you can be. I have a friend that I play capture with almost every single day. She uses the wicked winch every game. She can sink anyone. She can get that flag and bring it home. I think she could probably even make cookies onboard ship while at it. She can do anything with that ship that she wants and it is absolutely amazing to watch. I honestly hate playing against her. (The best compliment a pirate can receive I think.)

She loves the wicked winch ship. She knows it's strengths and weaknesses and use them to her advantage. Can she outrun the flying dutchman? No! But she knows that and very rarely gets herself in a position where she needs to.

Find a ship YOU like. Learn what you can and can't do with it and that will be the best ship for you to play.

Most importantly - remember it's a game and have fun on the sea! Aarrr! pirate:

2. If necessary, hide at the top of the screen and shoot when an enemy comes by.
Just my opinion, but I don't think this is a good thing to suggest. Like everyone has said multiple times, there is no way to cheat in pirates, but this seems a little cheap. I hate when people do it (even when they're on my team) and I've never done it myself. It doesn't seem right.

I definitely agree, it's never really seemed fair to me. I was stuck once and they killed me that way...

Yes, it is annoying when people do this but it is a valid strategy. Hiding behind talk bubbles works too. In my opinion, it's not any different from hiding behind the clouds. It is important to watch as much of the screen as you can so you notice when people do this.

One of the best strategies is to retreat. The other team may yell at you for "running away" but if you need health or ammo, it's almost always the best choice.

Here are a couple of ideas for getting the other team to come closer to you. 1. Make it look like you are stuck in the rocks and even say you are stuck. When the other team gets closer, move, line up your shot and fire away.
2. Announce you are "afk" but don't leave. Let the other team get right next to you then fire away.

This is just my opinion but it is a game of pirates. Pirates aren't known for being nice, they do whatever they can to make sure they don't get caught. Based on that, I feel it is ok to use almost any strategy you can think of in the game.

my best bit of advice...don't do what I do
