Pirates of the Caribbean had a $13,509,262 opening day on Wednesday. To put it in perspective, it beat last Wednesday openers:

Terminator 3 - $12,435,320
Legally Blonde 2 - $9,146,710

Normally, Sequals open better anyways due to a large built in audience. Ofcourse, Pirates has a different built in audience.

Looks like a winner for Disney! Just may spill over to get people to ride the ride at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

You mean they haven't closed the rides yet?
Just before the Toad movie was re-released they closed Mr.Toad.
Just before the Country Bears movie was released they closed the Country Bear Jamboree (in Disneyland).

They're not gonna close the ride for POTC are they??!! It's one of my favorites! Is there any real news behind this rumor?

Nope, just a little sarcasm... funny, but not true.

Pirates does appear to be starting well. In fairness to T3 though, it did take in about $4 million on Tuesday night, which most certainly decreased its Wednesday take...

Yeah but, T3 has a ride (T3D at Universal Orlando) at an amusement park named after it and that surely increased the box office sales. Pirates had to make it on its own accord.

just a little more sarcasm...

Also the fact is that T3 is a r-rated movie and if you look at the top money earning movies none of them are r-rated. Matrix 2 is the top grossing r-rated movie of all time and is nowhere near the top of the heap. So if a pg-13 movie is done well it will beat a r-rated movie due to the demographics and age groups will that will see a movie they like numerous times. I will see POTC next week and im looking forward to seeing it!!!!!!
