Pirates 4 confirmed?

In one interview to the press Johnny Depp said he'd make Pirate movies as long as they wanted to do them because he loves playing the character of Jack Sparrow. The interview was a press conference, you can probably find it on Youtube. Not sure if Keira or Orlando agreed with that statement, but sounded like Depp was good to go.

PS: There is also a great video on Youtube where Johnny Depp sees his own figure in the ride. Kinda cool.

I read that interview. He said he would love to do a 4th and 5th.

They could do a prequel. We could see what Captain Jack was like before he lost the Black Pearl.

i full expect an animated series to come out of this based on the young jack sparrow novels.

The first Prirates is my all-time favorite flick! I was so excited to see the second one this summer, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed with the direction they took it. As far as storyline goes, the first one had "it". I hope the third installment brings me back to the fold. princess:

Buzz about the lot this morning is that Kiera Knightley has told the producers (they're still filming At World's End that she's no longer interested in making anymore Pirates sequels. Her career is skyrocketing right now so it makes sense that she'll follow Orlando Bloom out the door to leading roles. It also is interesting based on the next rumor.

This is extremely speculative right now, but hushed whispers from deep, deep under the studio claim that some thought is being given to another trilogy - this one based on the "young" Jack Sparrow and "Bootstrap" Bill Turner. Johnny Depp would appear in cameos for all three films (essentially as the bookend for each movie) and younger, studdlier, cheaper actors would be cast in the leads. The budgets for the movies would be drastically slashed - in other words: no CGI, fewer ship board scenes and less exotic locations.

Pirates is the only franchise Disney has going at the moment. They're turning over every rock possible to keep the series alive and the cash flowing in. The goal now is to cash in on the first three movies (so expensive their profit is very small) with many lower budget, higher margin projects.

Interesting approach, but I am not sure another actor could pull off Capt. Jack Sparrow without devolving him into a caricature.

I imagine an animated series is out there somewhere.

Why is Narnia not considered a Disney franchise? I understand there together with Walden Media, but I imagine the better the movies do, the more Disney makes.

These days people are reluctant to throw out the word "franchise" until at least the second movie shows some power. It all goes back to Warner Brothers' plan to dominate the theater, video, gaming and the Internet with the can't-miss-and-sure-to-dominate The Matrix.

Oops.

The contract with Walden makes only the first sequel locked into Disney. Walden has already signed a long term deal with Fox and has several other high profile projects in the works. I think they'll see how well the next one goes (they're arguing with Disney about the budget at the moment) before deciding to continue the project or not. The first movie was successful, but not that successful when you consider the cost. This summer has forced Hollywood to wake up a focus on the entire economics of a movie, not just the box office take.

You won't see an animated version of Pirates until they figure the franchise can stand on its own without Johnny Depp. Everyone's rather anxious about how central he is to movies' appeal. And any Young Jack Sparrow series might wait until Disney sees how well the "reboot with younger, studlier actors" version of Star Trek turns out over at Paramount.

You know Hollywood is in trouble when they're both remaking remakes of old television series, and the remakes are happening to movies that are less than 10 years old. How many different versions of Pirates does the public really want to see?

I was think more along the lines of a cartoon on the Disney channel not an anmated movie. See if the franchise moves along.

As for Narnia, Disney isn't set to distribute the 2nd pic yet?

Just throw my hat in the ring. I saw Orlando on Leno and he said he was done making Pirate movies... It would probably be a prequel..
