hi  i've read somewhere aboute a cruise with captain hook, i think? leaving from the gf, maybe? anyone have an idea what i'm talking about since i don't? :confused3 looking for something special for a boy to do. no prncess breakfast, please :earboy2:

Yes...you are right. It leaves the GF at(I think) 9:30 - 11:30, 4 or 5 days a week. Not sure on the days though. Sounds like the kids really like it...they cruise, have lunch, and dress in pirate stuff and then go on shore to look for treasure! Parents get some time off too!!!
I would book it early though...90 days is the soonest you can book. I tried last week for May 19-26 and they were booked already! :(
You just call Dis. reservations - I think the same number for the PS but I could be wrong!
Good luck!

The Grand Gatherings cruise has Capt. Hook and Peter Pan, but it's restricted to groups of 8 or more staying onsite at a Disney resort. We did it in August and it's wonderful! The other option is the Pirate Adventure Cruise, open to ages 4-9, departs from the GF resort, and is about $30. My dd is booked for this in May, there's another thread running around here somewhere that has pics of it. To book that one, call 407-wdw-play.

The Grand Floridian's children's events are some of the most fun events found anywhere in the world (Disney and otherwise). My daughter has been attending them for years and always has the best time. I put her words regarding the events in one of my trip reports. If you'd care to read them (and view photos of the events), click here. Page 3 of that trip report describes the "My Disney Girl Princess Grand Tea Party," Page 4 describes the Pirates Cruise and the Wonderland Tea Party, and Page 5 describes the Grand Adventures In Cooking Class (her favorite).

By the way, don't count out the events that you think are strictly for the girls. You'd be surprised at the fun time your son would have at those events. My nephew (and the other boys in attendance) truly had a ball.

The official WDW website (click here for Kids Programs info) states the following:

- - - - - - -
Grand Adventures in Cooking:
Have a delicious time painting an apron, decorating your very own chef's hat and whipping up tasty treats. (For children ages 4-10)

Wonderland Tea Party:
Join Alice and her curious friends for lunch, cupcakes and, of course, a spot of tea. (For children ages 4-10)

Disney's Pirate Adventure:
Don yer garb and set sail to exotic ports-of-call in search of buried treasure. (For children ages 4-10)
- - - - - - -

If your son is now 11, then he is indeed too old (according to Disney's official policy).

But there are lots of other fun things you can do together. If you check out the official WDW website, you will find some of them listed (click here for recreation information).

For example, the two of you could consider renting a boat (motorized and non-motorized craft: Sea Raycer by Sea Ray® boats, sailboats, SunTRACKER pontoon boats, canopy boats, pedal boats, row boats, kayaks and canoes), going fishing (two-hour fishing excursion in the lakes of WDW, or cane pole fishing at a number of resorts), playing miniature golf (Fantasia Gardens or Winter Summerland), going horseback riding (including ponies and a petting zoo), playing tennis (professional programs and private lessons), playing golf (six courses and private & group lessons), doing water sports (waterskiing, parasailing, wakeboarding, tubing), and lots of other fun activities.

Walt Disney World is a great big place. I've been vacationing there for years and there are still lots of things that I haven't experienced yet (but given enough time, I hope to experience them all).

And make sure to check out the video clip regarding recreation on the official WDW website: click here for video.

You'll see some wonderful footage of plenty of fun activities. My family and our guests have partaken of golf (and lessons), tennis (and lessons), water sports (miniature speedboats & pontoon boats), horseback riding (and petting zoo), carriage rides, fishing excursions (my husband's favorite), and so many other things that I fear I will bore you if I list them all. There hasn't been one activity that we regretted. I sincerely mean that. We have loved everything that we have done in WDW (and that is why we continue to vacation there with family & friends year after year after year).

I hope this helped.

If your son likes video games, a day at Disney Quest, may be just the ticket for him! He sounds like the right age for that... it's basically, an interactive indoor theme park. If you do a search here, you'll find some threads with lots more info.... also may want to check out allearsnet too.

There is a tour at MK for train enthusiasts, "The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains." My DS's can't wait until they're old enough to do this one; there is some info on wdwig.com on their tours page. Participants must be 10 and over. Hope your trip is magical! ::MickeyMo
