Well said. There are legal reasons why a "children only" event where the kids are supervised by employees won't allow any adults, even adult caretakers of special needs children. As far as having children in "secured" programming with adults present who have not been backgrounded. On the DCL cruises they won't allow any adults in secured children's programming, not even special needs caretakers.
Accommodating an allergy is not exactly the same thing as a child who needs a one on one adult caretaker present in order to participate.
It could be that they will not allow their employees to take medical responsibility for your son, so you should be prepared for that.
The Pirates and Pals cruise is a great alternative and you will be able to accompany him.
I also want to point out that the Pirates and Pals cruise was not available at the time of the thread someone posted earlier.
The Pirates and Pals cruise was first available only for Grand Gatherings (a particular promotion Disney had). After that promotion ended, Pirates and Pals continued as a cruise anyone could take.
Parents who want or need to be with their child can take that cruise instead of the child only cruise.
The ADA does not require accommodations if the accommodations will change the nature of the experience or create safety issues. In this situation, it would include things like:
- an adult who has not had any training or background checks being present and/or interacting with kids on the cruise
- another child whose parent would like to be on the cruise
- a child with a high likelihood of having a medical problem on the cruise (according to what the parent has said) actually having a medical problem on a cruise and needing emergency care.
I'm going to close this thread at this point because it has been pretty thoroughly discussed.
