Pirate costume for 14 year old girl

I am looking for a pirate costume for dd for our Oct trip (MNSSHP). She is wearing jr size clothes (not shopping in the girls section anymore) and I am having a hard time finding a costume that is age appropriate. The womens pirate costumes are a bit revealing and inappropriate for the most part. Has anyone found a decent one lately? Or suggestions on a "make your own" type costume... Thanks

I think you'll have to go with a make your own.
I'd buy some accessories, like an eye patch, gold hoop earrings, bandana, hat, etc.
Dress her in black capri pants and a striped shirt (red/white or black/white would be my choices). Sandals or black tennis shoes/crocs/Toms for her feet.

Believe it or not, when I was that age, my mother sewed a costume that I wore once as a pirate (intended use) and a second time as Minnie Mouse. Costume consisted of a white blouse with puffy sleeves and a short full red polka dotted skirt. For the pirate costume, I wore the sleeves off the shoulder, added a gold coin belt we found at a yard sale years earlier (originally bought for a gypsy costume), pirate hat, gold hoop earrings, ankle boots, layers of gold necklaces. For Minnie Mouse, wore the blouse on the shoulders, ballet flats, and added ears.

If you can sew, the pattern books may give you the best selection.

I have found that some of the themed costumes from pyramid collection (www.pyramidcollection.com) has been helpful for me. Now, they can be a little bit pricey - but I have a few outfits from them and they've always been good quality clothes and have lasted a long time.

Another option would be to hit the thrift stores around you and get a pair of black or brown pants that you could either cut in a fringe at the bottom or add some elastic inside the cuff(make a small slit run elastic in the channel, tack together and the hole closed and you have blowsy pants) and a large blouse that will hang long on her, the Mens section might be a good choice so its big and comfy. Have the blouse untucked and get some inexpensive wide belts to put around her waist for effect. You could try a little pouch bag to hang on her belt as a "purse" and get some costume jewels to add some spice. I would pull her hair up on a pony tail and add a scarf to it. You could probable get what you ned for around $15, esp. if you shop on extra discount days or even now because they have summer clothing out You might even have some old things you could dye or be willing to sacrifice to save even more, if you desire!

I found a cute pink and black one on orential trading, also seen same costume on party city and few other places. I wear black spandex/shorts under mine and black hose but I personally don't find it that bad.

I have one you are wlecome to if you need it. Though my DD13 is VERY VERY petite. Not even 5 foot . Not sure of your DD's size....

How very generous of you I actually just ordered one from party city that was on sale for $15 plus shipping. I was nervous about the fit and what size to buy, so if it comes in and doesnt work I will pm you back about yours. My dd is 13 1/2 and about 5' or 5'1". Thanks again so much and I will get back to you if this one doesnt work out. I guess it will be here in about a week.

I'm with those that say make your own. However, I want to clarify that to say, have your daughter make her own with little to no help/money from you.

For my oldest I purchases a teen pirate outfit and felt it exposed too much of her middle. I made her wear a white t underneath and the problem was solved.
