I have been searching the boards for info on the Pirate Adventure at Grand Floridian. Has anyone had their child do this? Will it be okay for 4 1/2 yr old boy? Ages are 4-12. Could not find anything on the Disney World web site, just a little blurb about it. I did get some info from Disney rep when I booked it. 48 hr cancellation policy. Booked for Sept. Does anyone have pictures or more specific info about it? DGS is really into pirates right now and I am hoping this will be something appropriate for him. Thanks!

My boys went last year, the oldest was 6, and the youngest was just 4, by a day or two. They both loved it!

Here is what I had in my trip report:

We went to the dock, and it was the wrong one. Oops! We could see where we (thought) needed to be, and we found it with no problem. We were in the right place this time, with time to spare! We checked the boys in when they opened the window, they charged our card, and we waited. They took our cell phone #’s in case of emergency; some people got pagers, DH declined one since they had the phone #s. Captain Ron (DH got a kick out of that!) fitted their life jackets, and then they other two helpers handed out and put on their pirate bandana ears. Those things are so cute! We waited around until it was time, and the boys made friends with another set of brothers that were their ages! The kids took turns getting their pictures taken with the captain, and learned to say “ARGH!! and finally they were ready to board the boat. That’s about the time DS4 decides he has to go to the bathroom. Nevermind that we’ve asked him half a dozen times, he has to go NOW. DH took him, and another little boy had to go also. They got on the boat, and got their instructions, and then they were off. DH and I went to the MK one last time, just to walk around and take it all in. We got some pictures of just the two of us, shopped for a couple things we wanted, and used some leftover snack credits in the Confectionery. This part of the report I am writing mostly with DS6’s help. When they left the GF, they went to the Poly first, then Wilderness Lodge (where Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is held, but Mickey wasn’t there, lol). Then they went to Ft. Wilderness and they had lunch. Lunch was a peanut butter and jelly uncrustable sandwich, goldfish crackers, and a rice krispie treat, and a juice box. They sang “Yo Ho, Yo Ho,a Pirate’s Life for Me!” Then, when they were coming back to the boat after lunch, they found the treasure! At some point while they were on the boat, one of the CM’s on the boat yelled, “Where’s the Key?” The kids shouted back, “It was on the parrot!” One time, while they were on the boat, they saw a shoe tree in the middle of the lake. Captain Ron gave out the treasure, and there was plenty for everyone. They got “lovely” rings, beads, a pirate eye patch, etc. They came back to the GF, where we were all waiting for them. You had to have the receipt and pager (if you got a pager) to pick up your children. Our boys and most of the other kids had taken off their bandanas by that point, and they had them around their arm.

My son did this cruise in June. He is 7 years old and he loves to participate in almost anything!
He did not have a good time. He said that the big kids got all the clues and that beat everyone to them. Since parents aren't allowed on the cruise, I can't tell exactly what happened. I will say that he was hot, tired and very quiet when he came back.

When I asked if he had fun, he said "Oh...yeah...um...it was okay." Not a ringing endorsement from a kid who LOVED virtually everything about Disney World. I swear almost every ride, show and meal, he said that it was "the best ever!"

We will not do this again. I was disappointed because this was probably the thing that he was most looking forward to. Luckily there were so many other wonderful memories that we can just forget about this one.
