pins & ebay question

We are going with my nephew for his first trip to Disney next month, and I wanted to get him some pins for trading. In the past, I have bought pin lots on ebay, and I bought a large lot earlier this year (which I had planned to give him pins from), but I've just recently learned about scrappers, and after much research on the subject, unfortunately I'm pretty sure most (if not all) the pins in the lot are scrappers (the seller I bought from is on the "red" list).

I'd still like to try to get my nephew some pins, but I want to make sure I don't get any scrappers (I don't want to put any scrappers into circulation). I found a seller on ebay who is on the "green" list in the "Good/Bad sellers" thread. He is selling some 7 pin booster packs which I thought might be a good option (I'm afraid to buy pin lots now). It looks like they are sold in their original packaging. But I'm still a little nervous. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience buying these? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

First let me say THANK YOU for not using your purchased scrappers. Many people shrug it off as no big deal. However, as a collector/trader and mother of 2 children who also love the hobby, I appreciate every effort to not circulate these bad pins.

Booster packs are EXCELLENT ways of starting a trade collection. Plus, with most, you sometimes get a lanyard to boot. Also, if you will be driving or have access to a car while in Orlando, there are 2 Disney outlet stores that sell pins at reduced prices. They are good pins, just moved to the Outlet to clear out and make room for new pins. Another tip, at DTD PIn Traders, when you spend $30, you will have the opportunity to purchase a Hidden Mickey pin for $1. This is true for every $30 you spend. So, if you spend $60, you can buy two pins, etc. Make sure you set a guide for your nephew. For instance, don't purchase him a $10 pin and trade it for a $3 pin. For my children, we have established a CAN NOT TRADE list. These pins we won't trade due to the money we spent for them. Now, if you get into some serious trading with individuals, you may need to bend your rules if you want a pin of comparable value.

Most of all, enjoy your time! :thumbsup2

Thank You for not trading scrappers!! :) :)

I would go with the booster packs, we bought those when we first started and when I could I also bought them on eBay. :) Booster packs are great pins for trading. :)

Thanks for the info Spiffie and pixiewings71!! I'll definately check out the $1 hidden mickey pin when spending $30... I usually buy a few pins (or so) each trip.... and spending $30 isn't hard :)

I think I'm going to try to get a few of the booster packs I saw on ebay. Is there a risk of getting scrappers in the booster packs from ebay (assuming I am buying from a seller on the "green" list in the good/bad sellers thread)? I really haven't seen much mention of them in regard to the scrapper warnings. Most of the warnings I've read have referred to the large pin lots (which I am definitely going to stay away from from now on).

Of course no one can guarantee any product unless you purchase it directly from Disney BUT I would be highly surprised if you ended up with scrapper pins in a booster pack. I say go for it!

Of course there is always a chance you will get a scrapper with any purchase from eBay but I would feel confident to take that chance, especially if you're using a green listed seller. :) And please, once you get your pins please give us feedback on the eBay super thread. :) All input is welcome!!
