Pinocchio release...does anyone care? Will it affect the ride?

I noticed that Pinocchio will be released (re-released) in the next week.

I've had it in my netflix cue over a year & can't wait to watch it (it's gone from a "very long wait" to a "moderate wait" in my cue).

Anyone else looking forward to the movie. & does anyone think the often ignored ride might see a little "bump" in activitiy?

I personally think Pinocchio the ride unfairly gets lumped with Snow White (as lame & scary) when in reality it should be "lumped" with Alice (as cool, detailed & creative)....not to mention a great story with GREAT characters.

Plus it's a DLR exclusive (in America).


Anybody else ready to give ol' Pinocchio his props?

We're excited, especially since it's not a movie we have on dvd and I'd like my dd to see it. I do think it will affect the ride, if only because it will make the characters more recognizable by young children who may not have seen the movie before.

Its not an exclusive. Pinocchio's Daring Journey is at both Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland. It didn't even open in Disneyland first, it opened in Tokyo two months before.

Its an okay ride. Its not as directionless as Snow White but its not nearly as detailed and entertaining as Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland. Of course those rides score points for being a little different...Alice goes outside and Peter Pan is suspended.

I've noticed that some rides my girls like better after they see the movie and can relate to the characters so I've pre-ordered Pinocchio and hope that helps.

The Fantasyland Theater was there before Pinocchio. They continuously showed classic Disney cartoons there. Not much of a loss.

I like all my fantasy land rides, and never skip my little wooden boy (accepting the February I went and it was closed). I don't think the rerelease of the movie will give it any sort of bump though, because I don't remember it doing it for snow white either. Also I like the snow white ride, accept it did traumatize my little sister.

& because of the movie, I suspect it will get a little more popular, but not much. A couple of posters above mentioned that their kids might want to ride it if they're more familiar with the characters....I like the eclectic mix of characters from Pinocchio:

Cast and characters

Jiminy Cricket, voiced by Cliff Edwards. Jiminy is a cricket who acts as Pinocchio's "conscience" and the partial narrator of the story.

Pinocchio, voiced by Dickie Jones. Pinocchio is a wooden puppet made by Geppetto and turned into a living puppet by the Blue Fairy.

Geppetto, voiced by Christian Rub. Geppetto is a toymaker who creates Pinocchio and wishes for him to become a real boy.

Figaro and Cleo, voiced by Mel Blanc. Geppetto's tuxedo cat and goldfish, respectively.

J. Worthington "Honest John" Foulfellow, voiced by Walter Catlett. Honest John is a sly anthropomorphic fox who tricks Pinocchio twice in the film. His full name is possibly John Worthington Foulfellow.

Gideon is Honest John's dumb, mute and crafty anthropomorphic feline accomplice. His voice was originally to be supplied by Mel Blanc of Looney Tunes fame, but they deleted his dialogue in favor of a mute performance (i.e. Harpo Marx) just like Dopey of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, Gideon's hiccups were provided by Blanc.

Stromboli, voiced by Charles Judels. Stromboli is a large, sinister, bearded puppet maker who forces Pinocchio to perform onstage in order to make money. He speaks in an Italian Accent.

The Blue Fairy, voiced by Evelyn Venable. She is the beautiful fairy who brings Pinocchio to life and turns him into a real boy at the end.

The Coachman, voiced by Charles Judels, his evil smile and laugh is supplied by Billy Bletcher. A corrupt coachman who owns and operates Pleasure Island. He speaks in a Cockney accent.

Lampwick, voiced by Frankie Darro. Lampwick is a naughty boy Pinocchio meets on his way to Pleasure Island. He turns into a donkey while the boys are hanging out.

Monstro is the whale that swallows Geppetto, Figaro, and Cleo during their search for Pinocchio.

I always liked J. Worthington Fowlfellow (liked his character at DL & MK as well) & good ol' Jiminy Cricket.....& I used to tell an impressionable young padewan alec that he better always behave....or he'd end up like Lampwick.



Gotta love those old school "better do the right thing or you'll get it" movies from the past.

Even though the ride freaks me out , I cant wait to get the movie. Ill fast forward the parts that freak me out.
But I love Jiminy Cricket.
The ride however, gives me the shivers.
Little kids in cages turned into donkeys crying for their mommas, puts a wimper in my heart.

I should clarify that I really do enjoy Pinocchio's Daring Adventure. Heck, I like if for no other reason than once I've ridden it I have "Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee" in my head for a good few hours. Or at least until I ride Mr. Toad and get "Nowhere in Particular" stuck in my head. I love all the Fantasyland dark rides, even Snow White. I have a hard time ranking them, though, because Mr. Toad has such a soft spot for me. I never went to Disneyland until last month, having been a WDW-goer since 1975 or so. Riding Mr. Toad almost brought tears to my eyes because I have such memories of the WDW one.

I doubt the release of the movie will have any affect on the attraction, though. Pinocchio is such a great movie, but I don't know that it really connects with the majority of kids these days. I rank it third only to Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.

We just saw a commercial for the movie and I told the girls I've ordered it and they seem excited about Jiminy. They adore Alice, though, but are terrified of Captain Hook. I guess we'll see in a few weeks. LOL

The funny part is, and I don't think many people notice, in the ride she doesn't make him a real boy! He's sitting on the bed and everyone's all happy, but poor little Pinocchio is still wooden!

I noticed that too! I like the ride and everything but I couldn't help buy think the first time I rode it "Screw you Pinocchio! You're a liar, you'll never be a real boy! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!"
Seriously though, does anyone know if that's a broken effect? It seems like a pretty big oversight. I got the impression you see him from the side and he's a puppet and then turn the corner and see him from the front, maybe he was supposed to change to a real boy?

I cannot wait for this to be released on Tuesday. I don't know that the DVD release will affect the attraction, which is my second favorite dark ride in Fantasyland. I love the clocks at the end and the Blue Fairy effect is cool.

I really love the Blue Fairy effect in the ride too. I love the Blue Fairy in general, so maybe that's why....

I think that the movie might make the characters more recognizable to younger ones.

Nope, not broken or anything...that's just the way it was made! It is a mystery...but I'm thinking they really DID just "screw up" and never bothered to change it. Another possibility is that maybe Imagineers felt that Pinocchio wouldn't be as easily recognizable if he was in human form. I really don't know.

I notice that and mention it regularly. DBF didn't notice. LOL
