Do other countries do the Anti-Bullying wear pink shirt day?

Today in Canada people are encouraged to wear a pink shirt as a sign of support for anti-bullying. It's an annual event. I couldn't find my pink tshirt but I put on my pink hoody. There's an official tshirt you could buy sold nationally here. It's $5 but I was too slow to buy one as they were sold out when I went to look.

So did you wear pink today? Or is this the first you've heard of it?

I have not heard of this. Here in the States pink is generally used to support Breast Cancer research. I do like the anti-bullying message, though.

We do the pink for breast cancer too...

Well, we wouldn't want to do anything that would make the bullies feel bad, you know. :rolleyes1 Have to make sure we respect their feelings and all that sort of crap. Political correctness run amok.

OK, so I guess we do have this. It was on the news last night. But that was the first I had heard of it. Hopefully the idea will catch on so next time there will be better participation. :thumbsup2

that's great it got news coverage.... was it showing people in the US picking up the event or was it of footage from up here in Canada?

It was local. I guess the parents of a boy who hanged himself :guilty:were spearheading the effort to bring the event here. I didn't see them on the AM news, but they were on one of the morning programs talking about the event and the PM news recapped it.

We have a day of silence for this on the 16th for the GLBT community. I've not heard of the pink shirt day before.

Here's info from Wiki:

The Day of Silence is the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network's (GLSEN) annual day of action to protest the bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students and their supporters. Students take a day-long vow of silence to symbolically represent the silencing of LGBT students and their supporters.
The Day of Silence has been held each year in April since 1996. The 2010 Day of Silence will be held on April 16.[1]

I HAVE heard of this one before.

The one yesterday wasn't specific to GLBT bullying. It was more just student-on-student bullying. The majority of youth suicides in the news lately don't seem to be GLBT related. Obviously they could be, but that doesn't appear to be the case. The boy whose parents were on the news yesterday was in ELEMENTARY school when he killed himself. Very sad. :sad2:
