My DD6 was sent home early today with pink eye. No big deal it happens. Well we have a birthday party for my niece tomorrow at a indoor play place with laser tag and indoor climbing things. So DH calls his brother to tell them that DD has pink eye and can't get into the Dr. until 1pm tomorrow. And we are going to have to pass on the birthday party. He said to bring her anyway. :confused3 Everything would be fine and my SIL agreed. We are thinking about the other parents and that they would care. I know I would. We even offered to send them a check since they prepaid laser tag and such. The party is from 3-5 and almost 2 hours away so we are going to be really late anyway. They still want us to come. Any ideas to help get this through that it really isn't a good idea that DD plays with all the other kids. Or are we being the ones out of line not taking her?

i wouldn't do it. pink eye is contagious. you should probably mention that to them. maybe that'll make them understand why you don't want to bring her

The way to get it through to them is to simply not go. It is the responsible thing to do. Obviously, your BIL & his wife have not dealt with pink eye before. If I, as a parent, got to a b-day party & found out that a child with UNTREATED pink eye were there - - I would have to pull my kids out of the party. Imagine how my kids would feel.

I am a 1st grade teacher....3 kids in my class have missed school in the last 10 days due to pink eye. We are now on Thanksgiving break & I'm sure more will come down with it over the vacation. It is HIGHLY contagious.

**When you get to your doctor's appt. at 1pm tomorrow, he is going to tell you to SKIP the party anyway.

How many days were the kids out if you don't mind me asking?

Tell them the doctor said no to the party. As another poster said, I'm sure he will anyway. Besides you can always say that your daughter just isn't feeling up to it.

Each child missed one day. One little boy was sent home the morning of Halloween. He had to miss our class party that afternoon. :sad1:

:rotfl2: i love your "cut and paste" tag!!! haha!

We've had pink eye several times, both viral and bacterial. Only the bacterial form can be treated with antibiotics; the viral form (which I believe is the more common) is like a cold, it just has to run its course, and the child is highly contagious during this time.

You're smart to skip the party, though I'm sure it will be disappointing to your relatives and to your daughter.

We've been in pink eye he** the last month or so. First all 3 of my kids had it, but luckily the boys came down with it on a Friday night, so by Monday they were fine for school. And then they were all fine, didn't pass it around again. But I have gotten it 3 times! I finally got a stronger ointment yesterday- it is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS and can be spread so easily....and it's so annoying and scratchy and goopy. You are doing the RIGHT thing by keeping her home!

Remember to wash her pillows/bedding, towels, washcloths after one use until after she's on the antibiotic a good 2 days. I have been doing a lot of laundry lately because of this whole thing!

I definately wouldn't take her, just let them know it is highly contagious(sp?) and how guilty you would feel if other kids, including your neice, caught it. I think they would understand...hopefully!
When we have pink eye in our school, depending on which type it is, the kids must be out until they at start medication or for 3 days(can't remember which is for which strain though).

This is what I was going to suggest. Just put the blame on the Dr. & don't go to the party. The other parents will appreciate your consideration.
