Pineapple

Have any of you grown a pineapple plant from the pinepple top? I started a couple towards the end of February, I think. They seem to be fine when I have them in water, but I can't move them into the dirt. When I tried, their leaves started turning brown.
I've got them back in water, now. I trimmed them up really well, and they're putting out new roots.
Has anyone had any success growing these?

I've never tried growing them from just the top. We used to have a bunch of yellow and white pineapple plants at our house and my dad would just take the extra plants growing from it and plant in directly into the dirt.
I was told that you could grow it with the top, but never figured out how they could do that since it's a rooted plant.

Hi mommytotwo! Your Dad could give me some tips, I bet. That sounds so great to be able to grow pineapple...

Oh, oh, oh!! I think I found my plant to profile- pineapple! If I can get enough other people interested in this impossible to grow plant, maybe somebody will figure it out and clue me in.

I had asked my dad, and he said that you dry the top after taking it off the pineapple. Once it is dried, take off like two inches for the dried area from the bottom, then plant it. It will take three years for it to bear fruits.
If you are able to get a part of a pineapple plant, it will take around a year for your fruit to grow.

mommytotwo, Thank you so much for asking your father! If these things would just grow in the dirt, I'd be happy. Having them actually produce fruit is way more than I'm hoping for.
